View Full Version : Midi problems

I have some midi problems, as can be seen in the title. They are:
1. For some reason, EDuke won't run some of the midi's that are assigned in User.con. The number of midi's corresponds with the number of levels for that episode, and one of the files it won't play is about half the size of another midi, which it will play. What's wrong and how do I get it to play these songs?
2. I run through the songs with Shift+F5 and some of the song names run on. For example: song1name.song2name.mid will show up at the top, when each end with .mid in the User.con file. Why does this happen and how can it be fixed?

This is a longshot probably, but what prog did you use to edit the cons? Mebbe some text formatting slipped in. If you used wordpad or something, try opening them in DOS edit and retyping it.

Btw, Usurper, this really doesn't have anything to do with MIDI's but I think everyone would like to know why Duke RTCM is down. Of course I read the page saying "We will be back but this host is not-so-good / doesn't respect us", (it was not exactly like this, but almost the same, which was kinda bullshit in my eyes). So why did Corvin closed it? The site was definitely one of the biggest information site's. And the biggest if we're talking about "editing Duke".

?? maybe that you can't use MIDIs bigger than 72k, or I think that there are 2 midi formats (at least in Cakewalk), check if they are the same

Roger, I emailed you back. I think it's your long filenames. Use dos-compatible 8.3 letter filenames (filename.mid) and you should be fine.
Kef, even I don't know why RTCM is down. I haven't heard from Corv since the 29th. I've emailed him but nothing yet. images/icons/frown.gif

And to think I get mocked by foolish young wanna-be programmers for the habit of not putting spaces in my filenames, much less giving most of my files 8 character names. Just goes to show where this lack of consistency in modern applications comes from.
I feel vindicated now. images/icons/grin.gif

I'll e-mail the screenshot of error 2.

I fixed the problems.
1. I feel like a total jack-a**. The files that won't play were in my music folder and not my Duke folder.
2. Yep, the 8-character name fixed it.
