I'll believe it when I see it. First off, that's a very unreliable news site. Secondly, that specific news poster is notoriously bad, even by the Inquirer's standards. He's also as biased towards ATI as I am NVIDIA -- except I don't pretend to be neutral and write news stories. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So that would be ATI admitting that their drivers suck and they purposely slow down performance? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have been reading the Inquirer for a couple of years and they have had a pretty damn good track record. Not 100%, but for a rumor site they are uncanny. What have you found inaccurate?
As for the author of that article, I guess he does have a fairly high rate of pro ATI stories, but that may just be becasue hes the guy that talks to their ATI contacts. Sometimes I think that some of the writers are just fake names of legitimate journalists that don't want to get on some companies $#!+list.

Whilst their windows drivers have no doubt improved almost immeasureably, I doubt they could be deemed 'better' than nvidias - perhaps on a par. Where Ati is undoubtedly lamentable in its driver support, is with Linux. Their drivers are/were/and will probably remain/ crap.
Also, whether you like it or not, Ati's actual customer support is pretty poor (and I'm being generous here). Nvidias is pretty good. FWIW I now own a 6800Ultra, but the previous 2 cards I had were a 9700 Pro, followed by a 9800XT - so I've relatively recent experience of both 'camps'.

I use precedent and past customer experience to judge ATI. Every card I have every owned from them caused me grief. My games would always have issues and the one line that always made my blood boil was "ATI users" and under that section would be a list of errors all too familiar to me.
So what did I do? I chose nvidia when I bought this new machine and I never have any issues that are related to my card's company. There are no "For geforce 6800 users" lists on the games I play and never any problems relating as such.
Is ATI good for you today? Fine. Use one, not my PC anyway. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm just telling you my past experiences (and even the people I know) have all been bad.

Yeah, I have been real happy with my 9600 pro, not to say its been perfect, but then again even nvidia cards have issues sometimes.
Oh and who said ATI doesn't write their own drivers? This is the first I have ever heard of them not making their own. In fact I am pretty sure I have read info to the contrary of that. Don't have time to get links (lab in 10 minutes).

Actually it wasn't - as I got the vast amount of what I paid for it back through Ebay, and it was a good offer in the first place. I was able to give the 9700pro to a friend, who needed something better, and has done me enough small favours in the past. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You were making fun of card fanboys and parodying them, yeah I got that. But when among the easily recognizable babytalk you find something that's a word mistaken for another, you still have to stop and think "WTF" as you go back over it.
If it was intentional and part of the sarcasm, then sorry I assumed you didn't know your way around words and railed on you because people are too lazy to take the 10 seconds to learn how to tell two words apart. Even so, it didn't really fit in with the babytalk. "Pixuls" was recognizable as "pixels" because it's not really a word and close to "pixels". But "your" is actually a word and interpereted as such.
However if you really don't know the difference then please go back and take that English 101 course you failed.
EDIT: For those of you who will think "too long, don't read" and skip over this, here's a summary: If the error was intentional then sorry even though it didn't fit in with the babytalk and was still unrecognizable. If it wasn't intentional go buy a dictionary.

Where are these mythical people you speak of who use retarded leet-speak (babyspeak, as you call it) but who also follow basic grammar and spelling? That's basically a contradiction, because making stupid grammar mistakes is a noticably common part of leet-speak. I've never met anyone who uses leet-speak but still cares that he gets "you're" and "your" right. Chances are, if he's dumb enough to type with leet-speak, he's dumb enough to get basic grammar wrong as well.

This is my first ATI card. Before i'd owned a TNT and a Geforce 2.
No problems with any of them other than the TNT, which didn't seem to work without crashing using the stock cooling method (plain old heatsink) But that'd be a design flaw on Diamond Multimedias part (aahh Diamond...) I had to buy a 486 cpu heatsink fan and screw it on.
Not a single problem on the ATI so far, in the year and a half i've had it. It's second hand too.

Yeah, I tried them a while back. Reverted back to the ones from April, because for the second time, the new drivers didn't have DX stuff enabled and I was too lazy to go in the control panel to find out what all needed to be turned back on. Plus I was hosting a game server, so I had no time to fix it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
The result was windows' desktop animation was slow as crap and it was quicker for me to just reinstall the old drivers to get going.

5.6 is really strange, My fathers computer seemed to hate them. Almost every hour the VPU pops in GTA : SA and resets the graphics processor. Sometimes it halts the whole system and when reseted it makes error beeps and restarts and looped until you took the cord away for a while. Might be a error with the card or something else. Just got freaked out because it was only few months old and he gets easily freaked out in almost slight errors. (afraid of viruses http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )
Funny thing is that there wasnt any big boosts, at least i didnt see any major boosts, Again i might just be the card model (X600 256mb). Well got to give these a second chance on my 9700pro http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Come to think of it, these drivers crashed Savage once again. Must be ATI type drivers in general. Even the Omega ones as well as the beta ones crapped out Savage. I'd bet that even the 5.7 drivers wouldn't fix my screen from going all wiggy (flat triangles, versus actual rendered polygons). Re-installing the broken driver seems to fix it, or trying another one, but even those crap out. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
