If you think this is, this is NOT about wad2map!
I think 'somebody' here is making maps for Doom ,right? If you have one-mail it to-cedric.haegeman@wol.be
Al I wanna do is launch this with duke3d. Maybe it works! images/icons/grin.gif

It actualy might work to load a Doom map in Duke 3d!
I loaded a Duke 3d map in Shadow warrior, and that worked fine, only the textures and sprite were screwed coz these games got different art! images/icons/grin.gif

I donīt think that it would work if you wanted to load a doom-wad into the build editor. The engines are quite similar in their techniques but different in their structure. The only reason why you succeeded in loading a Duke3d map into ShadoWarrior Build is that Shadow Warrior is based on Duke3d- itīs only an engine improvement and - more or less - downward compatible. images/icons/cool.gif

Oh...
Are Doom maps also using the *.map format?

Ohh, canīt remember now... wasnīt it .WAD?
But a file ending is actually saying nothing about the fileīs function. Trying to open a doom map with Build is nearly the same thing as patching Shadow Warrior with EDuke graemlins/hhg.gif

Fine, question answered, topic closed (don't close it) images/icons/frown.gif

Duke3D and Doom's engines don't even work in the same way - let alone have an even vaugely similar map format.
I've yet to see any sophisticated between game converter that takes into account different ways the games use triggers and doors etc... It's not as easy as you expect it to be.

Should it work in Duke?

Wow! So, if I take a User Map, copy it to DooM and rename it (for example) bopsp1.wad, you think it should work? Alejandro?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">What Alejandro's trying to say in his wit is that the structure of the files are different, maybe so different that you might crash your machine trying this little experiment, maybe even worse. I had some maps (yeah, that's what they were supposed to be, maps), for Duke (yeah, Duke!) I got off the web or off a disk or something and they crashed the game. I'm glad that they didn't screw-up my system. The best thing is to remap what you're hankerin' so bad to play. If there's a good converter out there try it. But don't just think that changing the extention of a file changes the file. Sometimes there's just no way around doing the work images/icons/frown.gif
On last note, I won't claim to be any kind of an expert here, but I have been known to play around with the system (I like to customize things graemlins/dopefish.gif ) and have broken my system plenty of times (NOT FUN!) Save yerself the pain some of us have gone through images/icons/wink.gif

Ya wanna do an experiment huh? well, I Don't! because I already did it, and ya know, It doesn't work images/icons/frown.gif
Anyway, if ya want to edit Doom, you'll need their engine, becuase they had their own sort of Build, but not the Duke-build. (just like Blood has their own level editor only they give it with the cd when ya buy it!)
Bye,
Eduard

Since none of the other explanations seem to have worked properly, let's try a different approach.
Though Duke's engine (Build) And Doom's engine (Doom Engine) may look similar in what they output to the screen, the way maps are loaded is completely different.
Every file needs a structure, and though they do similar things, the structure is very different. For instance where build might expect information for a wall, if it looked in a doom map it may find information for a floor.
It's a little more complex than that, but that's a very basic Gist.
And to go with Alejandro's comparison, I'll offer one that's a little more real life.
If you skin a human and a lizard, put the human skin on the lizard, is the lizard now human?
- Shadow.

Well, Shadow...His outside body is...but not the inside images/icons/smile.gif . But you probably mean this:
If you get the build engine and the doom engine, copy the doom thingey to duke , is the doom engine now build?
Or something like that images/icons/grin.gif graemlins/doh.gif

Also note: If you rename build to Doom's map editor, it looks like build on the outside (The filename) but doesn't resemble it at all, in action.
