I would like to get a good fps on my ps2 so could you recommend any to me. Give me your top 3 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Anyone here played killzone? Is it any good? Since the hype over killzone 2 the original killzone has become popular over here and the price went from £20 to £40 quickly http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks

Timesplitters 2 - The real heir to n64's goldeneye done by some of the original creators. This story mode isn't too long, but the challenge modes are where the real fun is. This is one tough game to get platinum medals on all of them.

The beforementioned Timesplitter Series (haven't played TS3, but that should be just as good as, if not better than, TS2) is really fun to play and will keep you occupied for a loooooong time. At least it's the first game(s) that spring to my mind when thinking about good PS2 FPS's.
Furthermore you should play Medal of Honor: Frontline (Platinum title = cheap) and European Assault, as well as Call of Duty: Finest Hour if you like WWII themed shooters.
Goldeneye: Rogue Agent is IMO so far the best Bond FPS of the whole bunch on PS2. Consider it as a budget title though.
Haven't played Killzone, but from what I heard it's not the "Halo-Killer" it was praised to be.
Really, if you don't need a complex story get Timesplitters 2. It's a budget title now (Platinum Series) and the single player will let you have fun for months. Prices for Killzone should drop back to 20 by then. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Red Faction is one of the best, and only $7-10 us dollars. Don't know what it is where you are. Should be cheap, though. Red Faction 2 is crap, avoid it. Half Life is crap. Too much loading, and the main character is a dork. I hated Deus Ex. I guess Red Faction is the only one I liked on ps2... hmmm...

I wasn't a fan at how arcady timesplitters was. It feels very wrong to me.
I dunno, when i think ps3 i think rpg's more than fps's. Red faction and ts2 are really the only ones i even hear are remotely good.

If Red Faction for the PS2 is anything like Red Faction for the PC, then it is pure, utter shite. It may be good if you judge it by console standards, though. Another nod for Timesplitters, and I think some of the EA James Bond games aren't too bad (I enjoyed Agent Under Fire multiplayer).

Time splitters 3 and 2, both rock. FPS on ps2 don't get any better then this. The only games with good controls that feels natural. Only thing to complain a bit on is that the single player is a bit short especialy in TS2. But the enourmusly fun mp more then makes up for it. Be warned though its extremly silly from time to time. Almost every level is a parody of some other game or a movie.

I couldn't say, because I can't stand the controls of the gamepad. Also the framerates are too low.
I will say that the Area51 game looks good.

I would pass on FPS for the ps2. They are just too crappy. Wait for PS3, and Xbox 360 for some good FPS.

First person shooters are crappy on consoles to begin with, because of the low framerate, draw distance and primarily, because of the controls.

Controls are the only issue. Any technical issue won't be an issue next generation, and judging from your bias, I'm assuming you haven't played a FPS on the console besides the N64 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
For me, controls aren't a big deal as long as it's singleplayer. It's not as competitive, and you don't need fanatical reflexes or accuracy to enjoy the game.

It's all in opinion. When the PS2 first came out it handled FPS very well. But the controls were still a bitch. Now it can barely handle a newer FPS... and the controls are still a bitch.
For me the only place for a FPS is on a PC.

I quite like KillZone and I don't have a problem with the controler, once you get used to it. Killzone is good in single player but MP seems a bit jumpy. Timesplitters is probably better dethmatch.

There wasn't a single FPS on the PS2 that was worth it's salt. No, those craptastic military shooters don't count.
As for controls, I prefer the xbox controller for FPS. It just feels better, especially with the triggers.

I decided to get killzone lastnight to see what it was like and i have to say im impressed. I was lucky to get it for £15 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Its got smart graphics and is really cool to play, im surprised it hasnt had better reviews? It has got some graphical glitches and it suffers with slowdown now and again but apart from that it good.
I know all the hype over the killzone 2 vid and how people say is it ingame or not but after seeing what killzone 1 looks like on the ps2 i wouldnt mind betting that killzone 2 will look as good as that vid shows!! I was surprised at how good the graphics were on killzone 1.
I would recommend killzone to anyone with a ps2. I think you will be surprised when you play it!!!
Im gonna consider getting ts3 as i did enjoy ts2 on my xbox.
Thanks for all the replies everyone http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I really hate pc gamers at times who think that just because a game uses something other than a mouse and keyboard makes it inferior somehow.
Yes i prefer a keyboard and mouse for better accuracy and control but is halo2 a shitty game because my sniping takes .05 of a second more time? Not at all (keeping in mind halo was an example, many of you hate it and i couldn't care less for why you think that way).
I haven't played any fps's outside of the xbox that i really thought were that fun. Honestly if your looking for fps's get an xbox or upgrade your pc, the ps2 is rather crap by todays standards anyway.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is great.. well worth a buy!

I'm not saying it's inferior, I honestly will not play a FPS on a console. After using my PC for so long I just can't do the controls.
I use my PS2 for the Devil May Cry series and the GTA series that's it. My PC is my FPS platform.

Amen brother.
It was born on a PC, and it should die (hopefully not!) on the PC.

Well I've played many first person shooters on current systems and they're not good. I give them a try. Even the ports of old PC games such as SOFII and RTCW aren't as good as the PC versions.
Sure the first shooters released when the next generation consoles are released will be impresive for a short time, but console have been and will be plagued by hardware restrictions.
I was just sharing my view. I was not telling anyone to avoid play First person shooters on consoles.
I say the Xbox versions of shooters are good, but the other consoles lack the quality.

If we look at Halo, it made a big splash on the X-Box because it was the first decent FPS on a console.
But when it made it's way over to the PC realm, people weren't as impressed by it due to it not having anything that stood out.
A while back I have having an argument with a friend over PC games vs Console games.
And he brought up the point of you needing to spend 1000+ dollars on a PC to play Doom 3, while he only needs to spend 250.
I countered with the graphics, mods and control points.
That put him in his place, kinda.
He can be stubborn.

I'm a PC gamer and I like Halo a lot. I wouldn't say all console FPS are inferior versions of their PC brethren, they're just aiming for something a little a different. Halo is the perfect 'pick-up and play' type game with really solid gameplay mechanics, and that's all it needs. It has a kind of deliberate purity to it which works very well on the Xbox, especially in co-op.
$1000? My whole PC cost me $399. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The only FPS games on consoles that actually turned my head were Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Timesplitters 2 (I would love pc ports)
As for the money arguement....well, my pc cost me and arm and a leg yes...however I can do more with it than just play games. Also, I find many PC-only games blow away the console only ones. There are a few console games that I wish would be ported....but not many.

I know. I would love a Goldeneye port, but it's not going to happen.
Or even a Conker Bad Fur Day port, oh the possiblities.... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I recently just bought a N64 just so I could play Goldeneye. That game is still a fun today. Shame its not properly remade for PC. You can use a emulator, but it has a fuzzy feel to the feel of the mouse. Just doesn't feel right. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Timesplitters was pretty fun on ps2 though. I guess it was former Rare developers, so that might explain it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You obviously haven't seen the Killzone 2 demo yet. And before you say it's prerendered, gamespot confirms that it was realtime, but scripted.

Considering it'll be a while before PC's get anything like a cell processor, I'll bet the PS3 will be on top for a while.

I know it's getting old, but if someone says something about hardware restrictions on a console, it's the best example to point out. There's nothing on the horizon that even approaches it's visual quality other than UE3.
