Anyone play Ultima 9? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I passed it up when it came out, because I was still paying Ultima Online. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I saw there was a "Dragon Edition" that included Ultima 1-8 with it.

I can't seem to find anywhere that offers it though, because I think it was published in 2000. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

I've played it, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. The game has a terrible control system that makes combat a bit tedious, and there's a lot of glitches/bugs. The latest patch did fix a lot of the bugs, but it's still obvious the game was never released in a finished state.

If you can overlook those faults you might enjoy it for the storyline, though I didn't play that far into it myself so I can't say how good it is.

I made it through to the end and while it was a tad unpolished i rather enjoyed it. Definately go with the latest patch though.

I played it, but sent my copy to Mr Diffrence just before he disappeared from these forums. He never did post those wedding photos either.

The game itself wasn't bad. The entire ending turned into one big jumping puzzle after another, so I pretty much stopped playing at that point. Also had some problems. Even after it was patched you had to exit and reboot your PC every hour or so or it would crash something terrible.

Entertaining for a while, but the combat was too easy and it got repetitive. Worth a few bucks if you see it in the discount bin somewhere.

Damn, If I ever see it I might pick it up.

I just started replaying Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 and was wondering if it was worth looking into. Never played any of the other Ultima games, other than Ultima Online. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif I felt that was the only one I needed to play after UU1 and 2. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To this day, I can't remember if I ever passed either UU game.

Ultima VII Black Gate and Serpent Isle are my fav games of all time. Ultima 8 is also a very good game (depsite what critics say)

As for Ultima 9, it has its ups and its downs. As an ultima game it fails on many levels. The story is sub par, conversation is not critical nor even needed to finish the game. The main aspects are put on exploration, jumping and combat. That said, the gameplay is actually pretty fun.

You have to play it for what it is, a dungeon romp. Its more of a zelda game than an Ultima but thats ok with me. I still hold Ultima VII as the best of the series (and best rpg) but Ultima 9 is NOT as bad as the ultima fanatics would have you believe. However if you are looking for a story, status and classic sense rpg then its not the game for you.

Hope that helps...

So should I play Ultima IX? I played the demo a very long time ago, and it seemed like it had potential. But the bugs! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif they ruined the game badly. I would pick it up if I see it anywhere, I want to see if the story is good. The cinematics showed some nice mood, and the Guardian is very mean and evil! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Never played Ultima 7 and 8? Thats where the guardian comes from. I thought he was a bit too tame in ultima 9. Like for one thing...you actually get to fight him up close. I thought "Holy shit!" and was expecting some epic ownage from him. Instead it was lame and it kept hurting me and he laughed and sent me away. Very badly done.... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Like I said, if you can let the story take a backseat you will enjoy this game. Otherwise you'll be dissapointed...

Damn, from what I remember it was supposed to have a really nice epic story. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I guess it's more of a 3rd person action adventure, with a good story attached, but not a spectacular one.

I'll still play it if I can find it anywhere. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, but it was canned and repleaced with something that made every ultima fan sick to their stomachs. To me I can get by it and enjoy the game as an action dungeon romp. However if you want it to be story based you'll start to agree with the nitpickers. If you want some proof, check out

The Ultima 9 threats and nitpicks make the HL2VSD3 arguements look like agreements!
