Um, I really don't want to have to come back for this, but you should really re-package that build.. ..including lots of duke3d textures and indeed a slightly hacked duke3d.exe is most illegal, and could end you up in rather deep shit if you don't fix it m8.
Reasonable TC mind.

Umm you think I would just do that, no? I asked for permission and actually got it from Scot Miller as long as I would not sell it, so here we go.

Congrats on a good piece of work, Kef! It gave me the feel of Half-Life.
Only one flaw I saw in the game, or cared to notice, was that the Klingon's had green blood. I remember them having Purple-pinkish blood. But, oh well. It was plenty excellent. images/icons/smile.gif

Impressive, Kef. Unlike us, you guys have actually been able to finish after two years. I'm not a Star Trek fan at all, but this TC is still good. Just don't understand how the bots work, though.

Unbeleavable, dude! Did they worked 2 YEARS ON THAT TC?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My computer slows down sometimes when I play BN. Now, it has been stuck...
Kef Nukem
05-19-2002, 06:13 AM
Sangluss, what would you think? Making this in a month?!
Anyway Borg Nukem's progress went like this:
late 1999: I came with the idea of starting a TC for Duke, I was thinking of a War Tc but then I came with the idea of "Borg Nukem" and discussed it with my brother.
march 2000: we started working on the Tc, I did alot of mapping, textures (tiles014, that is the crappiest tile and you can still see that lol) and whatever.. my brother started working on the cons..
july 2000: we got our site up at totalconversions.com. In the holidays we worked alot on Borg Nukem and my brother did alot of con hacking (bots and stuff) and we started thinking of releasing a DEMO but that would have slown down the progress so.. no.
late 2000: I dunno exactly what was going on at that time but I thought alot of stuff for BN was done and we finally got some team members... from that day I actually didn't like the result of BN since the maps I did a year ago were now ugly in my eyes (since my mapping skills had been improved alot in that year) so actually we restarted everything again, this time not just my brother and I but with some team members. That was the actual date the Tc really started progressing.
2001: in this year 65% of the Tc got done and alot of older things had been redone (weapons, maps, sounds etc.)
I had some problems with team members who didn't do a thing and that really sucked (why joining a team if you won't do something at all ? d@mn).
2002: the completing year. In this year we (again) redone alot of things and I was in a panic when I found out we weren't able to release BN on time.
Anyway, a few months/weeks after that Bn got release and I'm pretty happy with the end result. If I could have changed a few things it would be these:
- Begin animation more cooler.
- The coding of the Borg Queen (I did it myself very quickly and I'm not a conhacker so it sucked pretty bad images/icons/frown.gif ).
- The end animation was only 20% done, it would have been much cooler if it would have been finished (on time) images/icons/frown.gif too bad.
I would score my own project with a 9 images/icons/blush.gif )
I've had pretty much fun making the Tc except for some problems with team members images/icons/frown.gif

Wel, making it in a month would be impossible...but now positive, unbeleavable TC! Only I wish my computer was a little faster...and the last maps of Episode3 might be a litlle longer, but okay...
And, Kef, it is never to late for changing! If you change something, then update that site and tell the visitors that there is an upgraded version of BORG NUKEM!!
images/icons/cool.gif the wise guy has spoken images/icons/cool.gif
Kef Nukem
05-19-2002, 08:13 AM
upgrades suck in my eyes...
Roger
05-19-2002, 09:49 AM
Upgrades are only good if a lot of people share at least one, big bug.
I also have to ask: How did you attract people to helping you? I've been working on my mod about as long as you've been on your TC. Our group is only me and Clegg. We can't do art, .anm files, or major things like what you guys have done. I'll give it one more year, and if we're still slow-poking in terms of member numbers, it'll probably just kill over.

Maybe Kef is more symphatiek dan you...
Kef Nukem
05-19-2002, 04:44 PM
symphatiek lol that's dutch, you prolly mean "sympathetic". Anyway believe me it was hard to find members. Sometimes you just had to meet the right people and other times you had to exchange your skills. You make something for him, he makes something for you. I know it kinda sucks to get members but of course you need to do something to get members.
Roger
05-19-2002, 07:53 PM

Anyway, I hardly ever come across anybody who could use a favor from me. I guess I'm pretty SOL.

For example, FakirBaba sent me a map of his and I asked him: hey, wouldn't you like to map for Borg Nukem. And he said YES. And then you found out some members can not only map but can also do arts and stuff... that's the way it went.

Just been playing it. The architecture is lovely, the levels are fairly well designed and the art is rather well done. Now to complain:
If I could run the thing without it freezing during firefights then I'd like it much more. And it is possible to have particle effects without the walls bleeding.
Borg Nuken people, can you supply an alternative con file that doesn't have any of the special effects in (like with the GoD TC)?
I put it in low detail in 320x200 with no sound in the smallest screen size possible and I still couldn't run it properly. There's got to be something wrong there.

Obviously I missed the front page. D'oh!
Anyway, it's very nice and rather difficult. As I say, a lot of the architecture is very impressive. Any Bob Averill inspiration in there? A lot of it is quite similar to his stuff graphically and nothing like it gameplay wise (so it works well on both counts). Sprite work is also excellent and the AI seems pretty decent (although one Borg did refuse to die at the start of one of the earlier levels and just stood there).
Well done on a very fine TC.
Kef Nukem
05-27-2002, 11:32 AM
Map 2 is the only map who is made with Bob Averill's style yeah. J.H made it and he just looks to have the same style since all of his maps looks similair to his. Anyway, yeah sorry about the Borg- Bug, it's a bug I couldn't fix images/icons/frown.gif

Roger, you're like freaking out, keep it calme man. If you want help make something cool for people to look at first, promote your site, get a decent website and ask for help.. having nothing to show, pages that are not working, a site that no-one will find and well I know you're making a Tc but be honest I don't really know what's it about which means you need to promote your sh!t much better if you want to get support and help (send e-mail to news@totalconversions.com and stuff..)
Good luck and don't get pissed..

Oh, d a m n! The TC is too huge for my comp. If I encounter with a Borg Drone or with the Borg Queen, or the game slows down, or the program remains stuck.
And the Antifreeze thingey doesn't seems to work.
Kef Nukem

Sangluss, after unzipping the Low Quality- Patch into your Borg Nukem directory you ran BNLOW.bat instead of Borg3d.exe , right?
If not try that.. if yes I'm sorry but you won't be able to play Borg Nukem images/icons/frown.gif Maybe you need to get a new PC sometime (so do I actually) since all the new games need at leats a 233Mhz and they recommand a 500mhz, and that's just for platforms! For 3d shooters and stuff you're gonna need like a 800mhz (or better) to run them fine.
And Roger, your page is just like buggy.. some pictures don't work.. the background pictures are too small for my resolution so I see them 2 times.. bla bla.. check it out images/icons/smile.gif

For the meaning of "working" the site works well but there are a lot of problems with it... some images won't load, one image in the menu is smaller than the other one, the design is cheap and sucks and it's even more ruinned by the Tripod's banner

No offence alejandro but I think you should get a better design for your AMC too it's simple which is nice but you should do something more spectacular like a nuke button breaking out of that wall / stone or whatever the background of the logo should look like. I think you can do much better. I think you have done this with PSP7 and well I think you and with PSP7 you can do better, now don't tell me WSYC's design sucks cause it's already 1 year old, it's actually one of my first designs with which I used Photoshop. Maybe I should restyle WSYC or should I wait? (till DNF comes out?)

- Yeah I saw you did the letters in PHOTOSHOP, I like the design as it is simple and cool but I think the nukebutton is just so borring it would look much butter if it would have been turned a lil and like it has just broken out of the wall. It's just an idea.
And where did I say that WSYC sucks? images/icons/confused.gif
- You didn't but I thought maybe if you would get pissed you would turn out about WSYC ;-) heh, btw do you think I should redo the WSYC layout (sometime)?
I dont see the point of people moaning (no offence kev) about site designs; if it works, whats the prob...
- I do, people who have made a site and are proud of it and it looks "good" (not buggy on their compu) sometimes don't know it dis-attracts users to surf on their site (no I'm not talking about AMC now). And just giving comments how to make a site better shouldn't be a bad thing, should it? I'm not moaning, just telling the truth and Roger asked for the things that were buggy on the sites. Since Alejandro replied on that first I thought, hey here's a tip for ya too.. well shouldn't be a problem in my eyes.

I plan on making the site Spartan in terms of background. I'm either gonna keep it all one color or one background. Every time I try to be creative, it ends up sucking. I'm better plain.

Dutch = Germanic, I did not say Dutch = German, but that's ok. images/icons/smile.gif I was only saying that because I studied German for four years and became interested when I saw the post in another language. I think that it is pretty good that you have spent your time working on HTML skills and such. Practice is always good. BTW, what time is it in the Netherlands right now?

Straight from the Cambridge Online Dictionary
Germanic is an adjective; typical of German people or things.
Germanic language is German, Dutch and English.
Therefore a German has a hope in hell to understand Dutch. A Englander wont understand German.

Yeah.........that's right. Germanic languages are Dutch, English, and of course German. Anyhow, I wasn't dissing anybody Its just that I don't like it when people are typing in another language just because they know that a majority of the people won't understand. Not that you were talking trash or anything, but you could. Forgot to put in that Borg Nukem rules.

Kef, if you think that us westerners don't understand, you're wrong. Some of us are able to understand through study of languages such as German, and your language being Germanic makes it possible to understand at least somewhat. images/icons/smile.gif Anyhow, can we keep the language in englisch please? images/icons/mad.gif

Yeah yeah I know all that thingeys, remember, I'm at school too lol. We had to learn all that crap on which languages the Dutch one is based etc. And yeah it's based on Germanic. Lanugages as French are not based on that I guess, that's why I suck at speaking French, yek. And well, not only speaking lol.
Any more comments on BN btw?

My review of Borg Nukem:
Coding and stuff: 9
Everything's pretty good, except that the ending animation is incomplete, not that that makes a huge problem for it.
Art: 8
The weapons are good except that some seem off in their angles. Also, there is little detail in the faces of opponents, which does make a difference. I couldn't see a difference in some enemies in terms of looks. Plus, sometimes it's hard to tell the shape of the room you're in because the textures seem kinda messy when you look at them all at once. The art's still good, though.
Maps: 9
There are some things you have to keep in mind. Don't change the pal. of the floor just to make it look right, unless the whole room is going to be that color. Just like you don't want to make a water surface pal. 8, because that'd be weird to see the player 100 feet above it and still green. Also, some parts didn't work or were confusing, as there was really no way to tell how some switches impacted the environment. In some parts, I had to use bnclip because it seemed there were switches missing or they were so camouflaged they seemed invisible. Other than this, the structures of the maps was great, as were the effects used.
Storyline: No Rating
I'm no fan of Star Trek, so I shouldn't say anything about the storyline.
TOTAL: 9
I would suggest downloading to anybody, Star Trek fan or not. It's still fun and one heck of a challenge.

Off subject, my site's back up and Spartan. Sure, it may look like others' sites, but it's still good. Tell me if there are any errors on it, thanks.

Cool mod! Reminds me of Voyager Elite Force, just with Duke3D engine this time. images/icons/smile.gif
Not that I'm curious, but some of the textures and sounds were definately taken from EF, right?

Yea, it was all right. I'm a Star Trek fan (not big enough one to go out and buy all the merchandise), but I'm afraid this mod failed in that department. Storyline had nothing to do with Star Trek, and it didn't have much of a storyline at all. I sooo wanted to walk around the bridge of the Enterprise...oh well. And stop using Duke himself in all these mods! How the hell did Duke survive through time up to the Star Trek era? Brilliant writers, guys. just brilliant. But don't get me wrong...it was an excellent mod. I still play it, too.

Since English is not my first language I can't write a "good story". And that's a reason why Bn's story sucks.
Two years ago we had planned to make the whole game in the time of the "Enterprise-D" but I found out it was better to do maps of the "Voyager Generation". The old Enterprise map I did had a bridge and like all the things you've seen in the series. But it was pretty buggy (the turbolifts) and I didn't like the design anymore so then we re-mapped (almost) everything. Since the sectorlimit is so small the Voyager map which Fakirbaba made is very small. If we would have made it bigger detail would have failed and that would have sucked.

Earlier on in the Thread the guys were on about using Editart, to make textures.
First of all...i am so sorry.
I use PaintShop Pro 6 to make my Texture's
With a Little Help From Duke Res I can import them, you get new Textures, X2 the Speed! So it would have taken you a year instead of 2 years... images/icons/smile.gif
Kef Nukem
06-27-2002, 02:12 PM
Umm we didn't make textures in Editart, well except for Fakirbaba ;-) but we just modified them in there (transparent bg's - deleting some pixels). I used Dukeres for some stuff and I made all the textures in Photoshop and some quick thingeys in Paint Shop Pro 6 (cause 7 sucks). Milkshape, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro, HL Model Viewer were used for the models.
Really using Dukeres or Editart doesn't differ a whole year lol. Dukeres is just handy to quickly import textures (yeah just textures mostly) and it's even easier for those damn rippers on the net.
