View Full Version : About "Evil Dead"-like TCs

I just wanted to gather some thoughts about the idea of TCs in the style of Evil-dead or something like that. Remember the game "Undying"? It had great atmosphere and gameplay aspects.
So what do you think about a Duke3d-TC set in a scary environment with lotsa undead monsters to blow up? Good idea? Bad idea?
I´m asking because I'm working on a TC with that scenario.
There's an Evil Dead Tc right now on totalconverions.com, but it looks like what it's name says - dead.
The idea of my (our -yes, we're a small team of 3 guys) TC is a really overwhelming version of "smash-the-zombies-and-other-scum-solve-puzzles-and-survive" games or movies.
So far we prepared a few maps and are implementing new features.

so with undead yo mean like very ugly zombies? Lol why don't you just play TA: Kingdoms @ side of taros..lol you have a hole undead army to create and its probably a good source of inspiration. I guesS (happy fakir graemlins/doh.gif )

I like creepy TCs and have worked on most.
Worked a little on Undead, Xorcist TC and Genesis Project. Though I think these three are all dead images/icons/frown.gif (hint: never start a TC with "dead" in it's title untill you've released something images/icons/smile.gif ).
There also have been other creepy Tc's like Evil Dead, yes.
But well, you can start it and I think it's cool although a Tc like this MUST be perfect otherwise it would be crappy, imagine crappy looking zombies with really bad made "zombie voices" and maps that make you laugh instead of pissing your pense...

Okay, excuse this massive amount of data now, but I think you might take a look at those screenies... it's about the map stuff I made for my TC so far (sorry about that 400 kb). The screenshots are a bit dark. You might use your monitor gamma correction to enlighten them a bit. sorry about that.

I gonna set up a homepage really soon.
So it's a TC about undead scum that walks the earth and you (a new main character) must stop them.
Try to imagine a mix of titles
like "Blood", "Undying" as well as movies like the Evil-Dead triology.
The weapons will be cool. Most of them will be "improvisated tools of destruction".
We'll have:
A golf bat
A double barrelled shotgun (what else?)
A gas-powered lawn trimmer
A flare pistol (like in Blood, but much more powerful)
Dynamite Bundles
A handgun
Akimbo handguns
A machine gun
Bear Traps images/icons/grin.gif (you can also attach a dynamite bundle to the trap...for even more damage dealing)
And finally, some really cool firework rockets.
What do you think? Good? Bad? Opinions!

I guess we would need some voice actors, especially for the enemies. If the page is ready, I try to hire some folks who might help us. Yeah, sangluss, if you want to do some creepy, slimy, zombie-voice acting, you're welcome images/icons/grin.gif
That would be foes like:
Zombies (male & female)
Rotten Zombies
Wraiths (people possessed by demons)
Skeletons (sword-swinging and spellcasting)
as well as Monks (casting dangerous lightning spells) and really strong demonic beasts.
We'll see....
Zombie, Wraith and the monks gonna be made with motion capture (photographing real actors) at high resolution, not that crappy like in this Undead-TC.
We did a test with that technology a few weeks ago and it just looked awesome!

Thank you for positive feedback, Kef. By the way: yesterday I played your Borg Nukem and it rocked!
Perhaps I should've released my maps that I've done before. You might have noticed that the textures I use where taken from Redneck Rampage. They actually are of much better quality; but btw, it's just textures that I've ripped images/icons/tongue.gif . Anyway, all other game graphics will be made from scratch (I hope so).
Do you think that TC idea would be something that's worth some work?
What are those sounds you mentioned?

I didn't mention any sounds, I was talking about Zombie art I did years ago for the Xorcist TC which got scrapted, I gave it to another TC but I guess that's dead already so it has NEVER been used so far! And maybe I can donate it to you. I've also have alot of textures I did a while ago (and years ago images/icons/smile.gif ).
But about sounds, I can make sounds yes, like everything zombie and gun related, not females though...
And thanks for the Borg Nukem feedback, good you liked it, it took 3 years!

Sorry, I was confused with the zombie-thingy. Thought you meant sounds. I saw the zombie-models on the xorcist-website and they looked good. I think it would be strange if you saw half of the enemies photorealistic and the other 3d-modelled (where you have no other chance. You couldn't photograph a demon beast and put it into the game).
Different types of voices would be necessary. Sure you can alter normal voices so that they sound more undead-like and so on. But the TC will feature NPCs which talk to you, like a priest or a police officer. That gonna need different voices from different voice actors.
You speak? Kef? Sangluss? Anybody else?
Man, I just realized that I'm asking to much questions today. images/icons/frown.gif

Jow Zilla I'm only good in "speaking" but not really good in suc sounds like a sword swing or something....just for one prob, my wavmaker doesn't works...or do I use it wrong lol?

We now have over ten different enemy types, including several classes of AI helpers and some other l33t stuff MBlackwell is working on. Like I told you awhile ago I will get a beta out to you soon, just want to polish up some of the effects and finishing rendering Rayge's models. But yeah, GP is still undead and kicking images/icons/smile.gif

Hudson, what actually is your Genesis Project about? Is there a homepage around ?
And Sangluss, now we aren't the only persons who are posting here anymore images/icons/cool.gif .
I think photographed actors would rock if they were done in a better way, not 24x78 pixel crap for example.
Now what do you think about the weapon ideas? Are they odd enough to be cool and innovative? At this point I should mention that they would be done with EDuke.

And lol me noi understand?! Me not record, Zilla don't here sound...Now serious if I make some voice sound and I can't record it, how the f*ck will you get it then?
