It's getting some very positive reviews so far.

Quite frankly, the 7800 GTX is a power house, overall it offers a third more power over the past high-end Series 6 product. Shader performance was increased in a very sizable amount due to some new GPU optimizations, increased pixel pipelines and two additional vertex units. Oh hey and allow me to applaud the single slot design cooling that actually is silent and working efficiently. No, I'm really impressed by this GeForce 7800 GTX. We've had absolutely no stability issues or incompatibility.

Another rather technical one:

What kindof power supply do you need for one of these?

I'm upgrading my graphics card soon. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Make sure to get a good PSU that provide 25 amps on the 12v+ rails ( 450 W and up)

btw, wich VGA are you getting D_A http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't graphics cards use 5V?

12Volts being for moving hardware: Hard-Disks, CD-Drive, DVD-Drive, etc...

Strange, I hear random reviews from everyone.
The ones say it will be 3 times more power, other say 20%, it's all different..
Only one way to find out, and that's to waste $600.

Still havn't decided yet. I know I want to get a card with 512Mb. That's all I'm sure of yet.

I'm quite happy where I am at the moment, I'll upgrade next generation.

I have better things to spend/waste $600 on http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'll upgrade when I am forced to.... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

damn...pretty much there`s no fps difference between 1024x768 HQ and 1600x1200 4xSAA, 16xAF...max 2-5 FPS.
Main bottleneck is still CPU, even 3dmark05 appears now to be CPU limited.
FX-57 is still not enough, we need at least 3,5Ghz AMD processor to clear this bottleneck and nvidas gpus can show they real capabilities

Most people are saying 3.2Ghz, which should be np for the FX-57 on watercooling. I know on single stage phase change they are hitting 3.45Ghz about.

7800 info... (http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/229/6/)

Now here's where we are going to surprise you a little bit more. Ever since the 7800 was rumored on the web immediately the discussion started on how much power it would consume with that huge transistor count. The 7800 GTX, my friends actually uses less power then the 6800 Ultra. NVIDIA claims it uses 10 watts less then the previous high-end model. And that's lovely! I mean we have quite similar core frequency, basically the same memory, 80 million more transistors and yet it's using less power draw. It likely has something to do with the smaller fabrication process (0.11 micron), which normally results in a lower core voltage for the graphics processor.

Kick ass. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's something that really caught my attention... it doesn't require more power like everyone thought. Cool.

My 6800 has an extra power connector you have to hook up and I guess some might even have two of them for different cards as my manual mentions that possibility, so they're definately using more than 5V.

Damn it! Next thing we now, GPUs will be powered by petrol! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif
Seriously this power consuming displaycards need to stop. I hope newer revisions of GeForce will consume less power instead of using a seperate connector!

Um, one of the big things about the 7800 is that it uses less power than the 6800.

I wouldn't say that means it uses more volts, maybe it just needs more amps?

My 6600gt is serving me just fine... is there anything out there to push this card?? Or is it just a 600 buck e-penis??

lol

This could be. It's more power either way. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My power supply is 400W and it powers my AMD cpu and 6800 just fine. (I needed better than a 350W for the CPU alone)

If you run at high resolutions which are less cpu-limited, the 6600GT doesn't fair so well. So while you may not have a need for a 7800, others may.

eh 600$, thats crazy for a video card.
