I know there are a billion of you who absolutely HATE Madden NFL ever since the big deal they did with the NFL. Blitz: The League looks promising. I think they are actually taking the series in the right direction. I read about this last night, and checked out a few videos, and it looks brutal. Gamespot said Madden 06 on the XBox and PS2 have "evolved visually from the previous iteration", and it's a complete lie. I can see if they said that about the 360 version, but on the current gen, it looks the same as it did in Madden 2004. EA are lazy. Blitz graphicly looks loads better, and has a lot of polish. I like how it has more of that Madden look, instead of the almost cartoony look of NFL Street. Gameplay wise, it looks like the old Madden games. You know, back when Madden was FUN. When you could tackle the crap out of someone after a play, and just destroy them. When the player would dance after every touchdown (he'd also dance after you sacked the qb, and he lost 15 yards or more in Madden 94). The gameplay looks like a mix of classic Madden, and classic NFL Blitz. 989 is also developing a gritty game called Road to Sunday, but Blitz: The League looks tons better. For those looking for a good football game, but not rehashed Madden crap, this could be it.

I'm not even into any sports but NFL Blitz on 64 was really fun - and simple to play. That's why I like the Blitz series -- accessible, you don't need to know football to play it.

In the old Madden games on the Genesis (not the SNES versions, they suck. I'd say Madden 94 was the best), you didn't need to know football either. That's why new Madden sucks. I like Madden 2004 (got it for $5) a lot better than 2005 cause I can actually complete a play, but still, it feels stale and without emotion. It lacks that classic Madden feel.

Blitz the League looks really great. In the ingame videos I saw, a player ripped his opponent's helmet off and hit him with it. In another, a guy got kicked right in the nutz. I think I'll pre-order it today.

Isn't that Blitz game the one where you can beat the crap out of people when you tackle them? Like bone-crushing sounds and the guy that makes the tackle starts dancing on the guy's grave, more or less?

If so I played that one in the arcade. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Very fun.

Reminded me of that NES game where the guy screams "MY KNEE!," when he get's injured and there is some little meter that ranks the hit or something.

^ Super High Impact, Wamplet, and it's for SNES. Definitely the best football game ever. I didn't think anybody else knew of its existence http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I remember my friend and I were so good at that game, we won a game 313-0 against a computer. And I got 21 interceptions through manually controlling the D-Backs. Very fun.

They just need to make a game like NFL Blitz again and I'll be happy.

I think the exclusive license is going to dampen the licensed football market, causing more half-assed updates each year. I wished they'd go and try to tighten up stuff that seems redundant for 5 iterations, especially if it's a glaring problem. I felt that competition in a licensed sports market allows for each party to step up their product, or watch as their product surpassed.

There is alot of things I'm not happy with EA's product and it's alot of the way they manage the production that cause my complaints. As it influence what gets developed or lack there of in a product.

Ahhhh, It's coming back now. Did the guy say "Wicked Sick" "Brutal" or something. I remember he said all kinds of stuff.

Man, to this day, I still yell out "My Knee" like that little crippled pixel player used to do.. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

Depended on the hit. The top one was "WICKED HIT" and the guy saying it looked a lot like Macho Man Randy Savage. Fights were awesome button-mashing fun, too. So was kicking. I had kicking down to a science where I could hit it on the perfect spot so my defense would be on top of the guy right when he caught it on the goal line and we would get a safety. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

And if you get two or three (can't remember which) sacks in a row, your linebacker says "I EAT QUARTERBACKS FOR BREAKFAST!" I also recall a short animation if your team was winning by a long ways, when you scored, it would cut to the other teams coach punching his player in the face. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Everything about that game was awesome http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

actually, High Impact (the original, designed by the creator of Narc and Smash T.V.), and super high impact are the first in the series. They were both arcade games, which were ported to SNES and Genesis. NFL Blitz was the 3rd in the series. They changed the name to NFL Blitz when they got the NFL licence.

Another hard hitting football game I wish would return is Mutant League Football... that game kicks
