I'm on vacation this week with my kids so we went to see the Fantastic Four at the earliest matinee today... So I probably have seen it before most of you.
I used to read these comics as a kid and my own kids were excited from seeing the trailers... I wasn't disappointed, really, but still
<table><tr><th><font size="-1">Spoiler below:</font></th></tr><tr><td class="spoiler"> I thought they spent too much time character building and getting their powers in the first place. The Human Torch never got the flying thing until right at the end... and Doom was way to easy to finish off... imo. </td></tr></table>
Jessica Alba was uber hot, as always. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gifhttp://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

lol...
I wasn't expecting another Spiderman myself, but it could have been so much better than it was. Sort of like Hulk... lots of potential but they just didn't "get" it.
So, yea... worth renting and seeing. Just didn't quite hit the bar, tho...
My kids just loved it, which surprised me. I was thinking with all the endless dialogue and background they would have gotten bored. There are only two real "action" scenes in the movie... one with the bridge and one fight with Doom. The rest of the movie I was just wanting to see Alba... lol http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

but seriously, some parts where it was supposed to be character development was just utter shite and i could have sworn it was written by a 15 year old who watches too much OC.
there were some cool parts, but overall it was far from anything special.
plus the background actors (people in the streets etc) were annoying as hell.
i'd say its definitly more for kids though

I saw it earlier....
It was ok. Im not an F4 Fan. But, Dr Doom is one of my favorite villians. But he just....sucked. And he was the same ***** from Charmed. Barf. It was enjoyable. Just a summer flick. It really seemed like a comedy to me though.
I'll give it a 9. It wasnt what it should have been, but it was enjoyable.

I truly loved it. Alba aside http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I guess people forget, most of the fans that grew up with this comic book and the story are now in their 30's and 40's. Not exactly the demographic the movie world is aiming at. What they wanted was to bring in the young kids that know absolutely nothing about F4. So yeah you got a lot of "crappy" dialog, too much character building, and a lot of stuff old comic book buffs would consider useless. But its the kids that are going to go buy the toys and go see F4 Pt.2. And with that in mind i loved it. Didn't bother me so much. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
As far as Dr. Doom was concerned i think his easy defeat was due to the fact that he began fighting roughly as soon as he turned into Dr. Doom. He didn't have a lot of time to hone in on his potential powers. The others had been working with their powers for quite some time. His defeat was understandable. But if and when Fantastic 4 Pt.2 comes out and he's had time to get his stuff together, I think we will all be a little more impressed by the final battle. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif
I would tell ya to go see it. I'll see it again. Trust me if people can like Star Wars Episode 1 A LOT of people can like this one. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I went to see "War of the Worlds" today for the first time, and there was a HUGE line waiting to see F4 at 2 PM. Kids eager to see the movie made up a large portion of that crowd. That suprised me.
There was a trailer for F4 before WotW. I thought it looked chessy. However, I really like the Superman movies and the old Batman movies from the 80's and early 90's.
I plan on seeing F4 now because of AndOne. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Indeed. No logic. "It was ok" != "I'll give it a 9".
Of course, BlitZ never said what the scale was (could've been 9 to 23 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif), but I'll assume that 10 was the best.

I actually enjoyed that part of the movie. From what i remember of the cartoon and some of the comic books, Ben and Johnny were always going at each other. Of course they had to bring things up to date with the X-Games type thing.
Hell i waited thru the whole movie to hear "It's Clobbering TIME!!!!" and "Show off!!!" Both quotes from the Thing/Ben Grimm.

Space Jam Review (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19961115/REVIEWS/611150305/1023)
It is difficult for an actor to work in movies that combine live action with animation, because much of the time he cannot see the other characters in a scene with him. But Jordan has a natural ease and humor, an unforced charisma, that makes a good fit with the cartoon universe. By not forcing himself, by never seeming to try too hard to be funny or urgent, Jordan keeps a certain dignity; he never acts as if he thinks he's a cartoon, too, and that's why he has good chemistry with the Tunes. He's a visitor to Looney-land, not a resident.
Jordan's acting sucked. If you've seen the movie you know what i mean. He hyped this movie up cuz he is a native of chicago and of course his hero is Jordan. I stand by what i said previously. To be fair, Ebert doesn't say that Jordan is an acting genius, only that he plays the part with "natural ease and humor" and "unforced charisma" and that "by never seeming to try too hard to be funny or urgent, Jordan keeps a certain dignity". I don't see anything wrong with that assessment.

By that assessment he is saying that he is a good actor. If that's not what he mean, by all means he would have said he was horrible or bad. He has never in the past on tv or his reviews had a problem with pointing out bad actors. His acting was as bad as his Haynes commercials. I wish i could find the clip from Siskel & Ebert's show that had them raving about this movie and Jordan.

No, he was saying that Jordan was good in this particular role. Jordan was, after all, playing himself.

But Jordan wasn't horrible or bad in Space Jam. He was pretty much as Ebert described him: very easy going and natural.

Saw it yesterday... as a lifelong comic geek of course I'm coming from a little bit of a biased perspective, but regardless I thought Fantastic Four was pretty good. While it's not a "Spider-Man" or "Batman Begins" as far as great comic adaptions go (Spidey 2 is still the best superhero movie ever http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), it was definetly a fun movie and great experience seeing the Fantastic Four finally come to life after years of false starts, and that thankully unreleased Corman film.
The Fantastic Four themselves were terrific, especially the classic sibling-esque rivalry between Michael Chiklis as the Thing and Chris Evans as the Torch. The more humorous tone and campy elements from the classic FF stories were perfectly captured.
The only major problem I had was the way they approached Doctor Doom. He's already the greatest comic book supervillain ever--- messing around with the details and origin weakened him in the movie. But enough of Doom is in the film character that he still makes for a menacing presence, and Julian McMahon's an inspired choice to play Doom. Hopefully if there's a sequel he'll be able to really become the true Doctor Doom, <table><tr><th><font size="-1">Spoiler below:</font></th></tr><tr><td class="spoiler"> especially given the movie's ending, which IMO definitely implied an upcoming takeover of the Latverian government.... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif </td></tr></table>

FF was my favourite comic growing up, and this movie was pretty disappointing to me. I thought the story was terrible. I thought the job they did on the origin made more sense than the original comic did (although Dr. Doom didn't need to share their origin IMO), but then the movie just went off track for me. The dialogue was pretty brutal, and I just couldn't buy Jessica Alba in her role at all. Don't get me wrong, she's hotter than a tamale in Texas on an August afternoon, but she just didn't work as Sue Storm for me.
It took forever to really establish the villain that they were going to battle (although you of course knew it was going to be Doom), and then the payoff lasted almost no time at all.
The FX were weak, especially for Mr. Fantastic. Surprisingly, I actually thought The Thing was the best of them, even if his stature wasn't nearly as big as it should have been. He looked a lot like the original "lumpy" Thing from when the comic first started. I could have easily forgiven these problems had the characters been portrayed a little better, but overall this flick didn't come up to the level of the X-Men movies and not even close to the Spider-Man ones. More on par with The Hulk, which was pretty weak as well, and mainly because of bad writing once again.
Can't recommend this flick...

Fantastic Four? More like Fantastic Bore.
I saw this last night, and I have to say they spent too much time on character development and not enough time on action. The movie has great potential, and I used to love watching the Fantastic Four cartoons on Saturday morning television. Just a shame the movie didn't deliver.

If you are at all familiar with Stan the Man it was pretty much impossible to miss. I like that they actually made him an actual Marvel character (albeit just the mailman Willie Lumpkin) this time, rather than just a nameless extra.
Sadly, his cameo was pretty much the highlight of the movie for me...

Definitely the best Stan cameo in a Marvel movie so far. It was pretty cool getting to see Stan Lee get to actually be a character he created, and also get a speaking line.
Though I also really liked his cameo with Lou Ferrigno in The Hulk, almost as much as the one he had here.

I'm not a fantastic four fan. I was always a punisher fan, but I haven't seen the new move nore am I in a hurry to see it or care to.
I see some members brand the punisher avater. I am I was a punisher Fanboy before all of you. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I was readin the comics back in my day. I sa the first movie and thought it rocked.
I had the punisher van. The VAN! The rear doors had removable gun racks. It was the coolest. it also had some lame cannon in the back, but I got rid of that so I could put Rambo's & Nick Fury's guns in the back, because the Rambo jeep didnt have enough room for Rambo's arsenal and I didn;t have a Nick Fury Vehicle, so Nick rode in Frank's passanger side while Rambo cruised the next lane in his Badass mobile.
If only I hadn't lost my A-Team van and A-Team figures. I guess I had a thing for vigilantys. Rambo wasn't the most glorified vigilanty as he murdered a lot of people in the first one, but since he never killed himself in the movie like he did in the book Hollywood made first blood part II and then Rambo 3. I heard there will be a Rambo 4. What's the premise this time? Rambo has to rescue the colonel from a retirment home? But serioulsy the guy who played trautman is dead. You can't make a Rambo movie without trauman. It would be like making a Rambo movie without Rambo.
But back on topic here. I'll see it when I see every movie. When it's airing on cable and I happen to catch it while changing channels. I doubt the quality of movie. Superhero movies exploded into a bandwagon. First they did batman movies then X-men. Soon after it exploded. Someone did spiderman another brought back the punisher, cat women and now the fantastic four. I think someone also did the incredible hulk.

Congratulations. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Seriously though, I wish I had read some comics back in the day. I've only been "catching up" on superheroes, and the like, during the last few years or so.
Batman is my favorite, and I'll get to see Batman Begins in two days (finally), but I'll make sure I get to see Fantastic Four someday... even though I've never been interested in the bunch.
The superhero trend in Hollywood might die, but it'll live on in me and many others. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here's a trailer of the original 1994 Fantastic Four film that never saw the light:

Haha... at least The Thing looks better in 1994 than the new movies.
