I'm not really sure, when I like a song usually I know while I'm listening to it. If after listening to it I don't like it why listen to it again?
Then again I guess you could argue that....some songs that I've heard over and over again from when I was younger grow on you and you find yourself liking it whether its your type of music or not. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
if a song repulses me right away like most of types of rap and pop do, then I would rather never hear it again....however that damn box known as the radio tends to disagree..

It's usually the albums that you don't get on the first try that give you the most pleasure in the long run. You can go back to them time and time again.
I listen to Pink Floyd. That about sums it up.

Theres pleanty of music i enjoyed on first shot, and then theres pleanty more i had to listen to a few times to appreciate.
Seems to me people get used to what they hear on the radio, and when they hear something thats a little different, they tend to question if its ok for them to like it.
I don't understand what you are talking about, but if I think that what I think is right, I would pick both options.

I like to listen to songs that noone else like, it makes me feel special. The music is often real crap, but that's not the point.

'A bit long or long, takes a few listens to appreciate' is probably more satisfying in the long term. But that doesn't mean that all 'long' music isn't instantly satisfying from the start.

Instant gratification normally means I'll get bored fast. So music I love takes a while to appriciate. Infact much of my most loved music I hated at first.

Doesn't work that way with me http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've always hated Britney Spears and I can't see myself ever liking that shit http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hehe yes not quite that way :P I'm mainly reffering to noise albums and stuff like that. EG, Mike Pattons" Adult themes for voice".

Sometimes it's instant gratification for me (lot's of Beethoven music is like that), sometimes it takes me a while unravel and start to appreciate a peice, though i never find myself hating the music as much as simply be unaffected by it until i finally 'get it'.
Generally speaking this means that if something doesn't grab me after a while i just push it aside then try again at a later time.
If i hate something that means i clearly understand the music and i know why i hate it in the first place, which also means that hape for me comes instantly...

Same for me, the albums I don't quite like at the start are usually the ones I like most in the end. This doesn't stop with music, same with movies and games. There are some exceptions though.
