So I have Duke3D 1.5 installed on my machine (98se, 1.3 Athlon, 512 mb ram, GeForce 2 Pro). I opened it up after not using it for years, and it opens up in 3D mode in the default startup map (newboard.map or something if I remember correctly). All is good, but once hit Enter to go into 2D mode the screen just goes black. I hit enter again, and it takes me back to 3D mode. So then I quit and again I have a blank screen, I have to ctrl+alt+delete and end task to get back to the desktop.

I tried using Mapster, but it doesn't work either. =P I get this error:

http://www.turpentinegfx.com/images/mapster.gif

I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks a bunch.

I never heared of that error...but heck try this: start your computer then close and select close and open back In dos, when done, head to er directory where mapster is and try to start it...or like fakirbaba said graemlins/tinyted.gif look after this guy..

Well, I rebooted into DOS (should have thought of that before) and now the 2D mode in Build works fine. However, my mouse doesn't work at all. =[ I tried running bsetup.exe and choosing "Mouse and Keyboard" but it didn't help any. I still get the error when trying to run Mapster as well. Thanks for the help though, now I just need to get my mouse working when booting into DOS.

If you boot up in DOS only, you'll need to install the DOS mouse drivers before the mouse will work. The file is called MOUSE.COM (If you can't find it on your computer, try a Google search for 'generic windows 98 mouse driver download')

You can either start it directly from the DOS prompt, or you can add it to your Autoexec.bat/Config.sys files so it gets loaded automatically when you boot into DOS.

You may have to manually pre-load your DOS sound drivers as well.

NOW I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You first must extract the arts out of the duke3d.grp with kextract! Just type kextract duke3d.grp *.art!

Then Mapster should work images/icons/smile.gif !

Well, I already have my .art files extracted, so I don't think that's the problem. Thanks for the help though. =]

Thanks for the mouse info, I'll definitely try that out.

The problem is the GF 2.
