Duke Nukem's shrinkray - you can use it to take out Assault Commanders with one shot (and sometimes mini-Battlelords \o/);

The Stakegun from Painkiller, because you can pin monsters to the wall;

The silenced MP5 from FarCry, because, well, it's silenced;

The EMP rifle from System Shock 2, as you can take out all those damn robots quickly with it;

In UT2003 the Bio-Rifle was the weapon of choice for all the top competitive players. There are videos of people nailing each other halfway across the map with the secondary fire.

Damn, I forgot all about the crossbow from the original Half-Life. It's so wonderful to be able to take out baddies from a distance with one shot (two if it's an alien grunt), and everyone else be none the wiser. Overall, I'd say that Half-Life has the best weapon selection of any game that I've played so far (look, sound, animation, 'feel', variety, imagination, quirkiness - ace on just about every aspect you'd care to mention).

Agreed. If you're playing Invasion and you have a bunch of Warlords grouped together, there is nothing better than a big wad of green goop to turn them into big wads of red goop in a hurry.

I am very partial to the flak cannon in UT. Also love the rocket launcher and the dual mode firing method of the shock rifle. It all depends on the map and situation.

Someone should start a "most useless weapon" thread.

The firewall weapon itself didn't appeal to me, but that animation of a skeleton falling apart whenever someone got caught in the fire is very funny.

You've reminded me now of the flare gun in Blood! I do love guns where you can kill most enemies with one shot, and the way enemies scream as they "immolate" is always satisfying (and sometimes they leave behind a roast ham!). Of course, it doesn't work as well on the highest skill levels, where you usually need more than one shot...
