Ok I've seen a program to allow this before, I just can't recall the name. Basically I want to know if I can fake my video card's ID to a game. So if I have a 6800, it shows up as a Geforce 2 MX or something. I'm just wondering because I suspect a few old games of not recognizing the 6800 brand as a 3d card.

The utility I've seen also emulates features like Hardware T&L and writes a config file that is run evey time the game is.....sound familiar to anyone? I remember using it when I was doing something for HL2......

EDIT - Ok its 3D analyze, and it didn't fix my problems http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Exactly what problem(s) are you having?

What games do you want to play?

This was regarding my Metal Gear issue. It didn't help, and the game refuses to run with 3dAnalyze running in the background.

EDIT - Anyone know a better program to do this?

5200FX is not equal to a 6800

Have you tried rivatuner? It will allow you to softmod the name of your card so that even windows will think you have whichever card you select, however, I'm not sure it it can go outside its own generation of naming (IE, I'm not sure if you can call a 6800 a 5200, but I know you could rename a 6800 GT to a 6800 Ultra or 6200, though the hardware should run as its factory specs).

I've looked at that one however that would require a bit much (restart to change, play game, switch back, restart again) just to play one game in hardware mode.

However, I was recommeneded a good program:

I just have to get the thing working correctly http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is there some program or utilty that will fool a computer into thinking it has more vram than it does? I just bought a game that won't l;et me play because its system req are too low, even though i ran the demo and it was fine. Upgrading is not option since i'm using a laptop.

3DAnalyze. You can fake a few features, but be prepared for lockups and such.

Does that mean I can fake a GeForce 2 GTS for Shadow of Destiny? Cause I can't seem to enable Blur and focus in the options menu.

Try Rivatuner.
