Quick question: If I have a video card with 256mb of memory and my pc has 2 gigs of ram...what should my AGP aperture size be?

I'm getting mixed answers trying to search in google. Some sites say half of your video card ram, while others say half of your system ram. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif So either I have to set it to 128 or 1gb.....but I haven't the idea of which.

Anyone know the real answer?

128 or 256.

Try different values and run benchmarks to find out which one is best for you.

Unless you're trying to run Doom 3 in Ultra mode, I would set it to 128 megs.

I do run in ultra mode. My 2 gig of ram seems to allow it in very high fps. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

However I just want the best performance possible is all. Currently I believe its at 128.

Well, "your 2 gigs" also doesn't let you down if you set it at 256. I would keep it at 1/4 of the amount of ram. But you can't do that. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My bios allows it to go to 1gb http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thats the whole reason I asked.

AGP Aperture is strange. Try 1 GB, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got lower performance with it than 256 or something.

I don't find much strange about it.. it's simply the amount of physical RAM that can be used as video memory when the card runs out of VRAM. A gig is way too high. 128 or 256 would be adequate.

I've got mine set at 128 MB and I've got a 256 MB card.
