View Full Version : Is Swat 4 suppose to run like shit?

I have a 2800xp 1 gig of ram, more than 10 gigs of free harddisk space, a 6800gt and i get 20-30 fps for most parts of missions and 10-14 in firefights. I have everything set to high, but shadow to low coz the fps is really abysmal, i have defragmented, check for adware and spyware, but swat runs like a ****. And it runs on an unreal engine, all the more frustrating it is. I hope im not the only one here coz i have no problems running other games. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

I had everything maxed I never had a slow down or stutters during single play. Never played multiplay though. I have no idea how it handle during multiplay.

Isn't that what all developers shoot for when making a game?

It runs fine for me on a 9800 pro, even with the remote camera view on, too.
I got the same settings as you.

A fresh format and reinstall should help!

I thought he sympathized with me. lol
No wonder... swat4 is a cpu intensive game i suppose.

nah too much work for just this game... i checked my computer with 3dmark 05 and the score is the same as the last time, nothing's wrong with it.
I dont have service pack 2 though, does that affect the game alot?

I'm not sure. I've got a friend who's running the game on 2Gig P4, 1Gig DDR400 Ram and GeForce FX5200. No performance problems for him!

elloehpipati, forget about the CPU you have a high-end card there.
you should be able to run the game at max details without any problem.
what is your 3dmark2005 score?
what drivers are you using?
Travis

I'm running it with 768mb of RAM, 2.8ghz P4 and an 128mb Geforce 4 MX 4000 and it's fine with everything on full...

Im using drivers that came with battlefield 2. Im able to run battlefield on max at 1024x786 at 60 fps. I got a 3dmark05 score of 5417 on the lastest version of 3dmark.
I know for sometime now my cpu has been bottlenecking my gfx card, coz in games like Dawn of War and Hl2, the system really chugs when theres too many enemies.
I'm really confuse coz i can run all the current games like SC:Ct and Far Cry fine but swat4 just kills my system. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif That's why i was wondering if my version of service pack affected anything as it was written on the box service pack 2 reccomended.

Yeah, indeed you need a more powerful CPU at least an Athlon 3000+ 64 bit CPU.
You have got a nice 3dmark2005 score mine was around 5600 I guess.
Why you don't try to uninstall the game and reinstall it again maybe this will help ( let the game determine the optimal settings).

I have other pals that play the game with service pack 2, with 2.4Ghz P4s and even one guy with windows 2000.
It runs fine for them as well.

Intel 3.2 GHZ - 800 MHZ FSB - 2M L2 cache
1GB Kingston DDR400
Inno3d Geforce 6800 GT 256 RAM
I recommend you to upgrade your Nvidia drivers to XTreme-G 77.77-HD 32Bit (http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_details&gid=282&Itemid=41) . Very Stable and nice drivers http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
That if your reinstall didn't work!
Good Luck.

Is it safe? Im not too sure about things with Xtreme to their names. My card's already very hot with the default drivers and I cant risk spoiling my card.

If you are satisfied with your current drivers don't risk installing them but I can assure you that these drivers are the best ( better image quality + increase in frame rates in all games ).
what's your VGA's temperature at idle and load times ?
mine varies between 57 celsius and 70 celsius.
elloehpipati

50 idle, 70 while playing games.
My cpu nearly overheated once because i loaded the high performance settings in advance chipset options in bios and the mobo started beeping to warn me. I quickly quit my game and switched off my computer.
Have yet to reinstall my swat4, i have alot of schoolwork to do.

Yeah, Im in a digital media design course http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif sometimes the course can be bitch coz design is so subjective and my teachers have bad tastes

I'm very tempted. But it says I need to manually uninstall all previous drivers before installing it, and is this safe? Plus, I don't even know how to do that/run windows without any drivers...
Cerberus_e

it's not a problem, windows will automatically pick an own driver, when you uninstall your drivers.
Gatinater

So you ruled out the possibility of the problem being the motherboard?

And before I download it, I'd like just one more reassurance that the driver is safe and trustworthy, and I won't break my computer http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It actually does push your computer pretty hard. I do remember many reviews stating that it was a system hog even though it wasn't the best looking game on the market. I imagine your teammate AI takes a healthy chunk out of your CPU cycles.
Curiously, when I upgraded from a Geforce 5700 Ultra to a 6600GT, I didn't as big of a performance as I was expecting. All it really did was make my framerates more consistent rather than give me a higher upper limit, if that makes any sense.

An upgrade like that basically just lets you toggle AA and such with out the performance slow down as your older card.
