Mapster is only a slightly modified version of the editor you've already got.

I don't know!
I can't explain really.
Build didn't work for me, because the keys were messed up so I tried mapster and it worked.

TerminX runs XP, so he fixed the keyboard code so the keypad can work.

Thank you for all your help images/icons/smile.gif I'll download mapster now, I hope the keypad works ok on Windows XP Professional though. When I had a 486 DX2 computer I was really addicted to making levels and I was quite good at it and now that I've played levels more I really want to start building again.

When I tried using Mapster, I followed the instructions (I think) for installing it (extracting) and all I get is a black screen after typing in mapster. Any ideas on what the problem is. I'm using WinXP Pro.

I had that problem as well. I found that I couldn't actually get it to work, though if you lower from full screen again, you'll probably be back in text mode command prompt. I just went over to JonoF's build port.

It needs the lookup.dat file to be in your folder. kextract duke3d.grp *.dat.

Okay, I did what you said (extracted the .dat files) and it worked and in 3d mode the colors are normal. But I've got 2 other problems.
1. When I click the left mouse button in 2d mode (grid) Mapster crashes.
2. In 3d mode when I press V to select a tile or sprite, the list comes up, but anything not used in the level I'm currently looking at is not shown (i'd scroll down and see the names of tiles and sprites but no image would show up). I tried extracting the .art files but it didn't work.

For some reason Mapster doesn't particularly like it when you hold the left mouse button for more than a second.
Push V twice.
