View Full Version : Help needed with too restrictive firewall

Hi, since I've switched firewalls I can't access certain webpages. My new firewall is fully configurable, I just don't know what I have to change to allow these pages to work.
Example of pages I can't open (most are Danish, btw): www.krak.dk (http://www.krak.dk), www.psy.au.dk (http://www.psy.au.dk), www.hm.com (http://www.hm.com)
I'm using the Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager firewall that came with my DFI LANparty UT nForce3 250gb motherboard. It works great (and very unobtrusively) with most other webpages, for example this one http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I cannot help you, though I can suggest something that may fix your current issue...
See if your firewall has Safe, Non-Safe (auto blocking) features embedded into it.
It is possible it does, and the sites you are wanting to visit, share a value that is forbiddon by your firewall.
If this is the case, try disabling the element.
I also advise you, if you are going to make another post about your firewall issue, make sure you declaire what product it is.

Indeed, if you actually told us which firewall you were using, your chances of getting a solution out of us would increase somewhat.

But it's right there in my post: the Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager firewall (it comes with all nForce 3 and 4 motherboards, AFAIK, and is included in Nvidias unified driver pack).
It's a nice firewall, you can configure every setting, I just don't know what any of them do http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes... NOW it is there; since you've edited your original post.
Your attempt in trying to rebound the stupidety onto us has failed.

No, no post-editing. And if you see any of my other threads on this or any other pc forum you'll see that my usual reaction to a request for lack of info is simply to state the missing information, not 'trying to save face'. You are clearly the one here not focusing on the topic, not me.
I meant no insult by pointing out the info was in my post, just stated it since I was in wonder you didn't read my post, but still took the time to bicker. If you have no constructive advice (which should be clear by now), please stop trolling this thread. I don't want to bicker with you.
Anyone here who actually knows about these things? Any help much appreciated!

Check your hosts file.
And don't lie - you edited http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Two people posted that I didn't state my firewall (which I recall I did, I wrote "Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager"), so the edit added details about it, but the name of the darn thing was there already. At least that's how I remember it, but since it WASN'T A BIG THING TO ME (then, at least), WHO KNOWS. If I knew you would assume that I'm a liar I would have written it all down for safe keeping. But now I just don't know anymore. Anyhow, I never did this to "rebound any stupidety" which is a way overblown aggressive remark. But I assume that is just the way you perceive other people.
Anyway, whether this is a misunderstanding or just you trolling, I don't need help with this so bad that I want to be accused of being a liar, so just forget about it.
Just needs a good firewall which asks only once for conformation of new programs/services. I recommend Zone Alarm Free.

umm... I think Shiranui was joking (thus the http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, in his post)

Indeed. I don't usually resort to smilies to punctuate my facetiae, but as the net is full of overly sensitive dullards (present company excepted) I decided to do so this time.
Regrettably, it appears to have failed in this instance.
Back to the problem: Can you access those pages if you disable the firewall?
