this one, too
for me , the 70s version had nothing over it , what i wouldnt rather draw to the original book..
meaning , the only complaint was the "wonkas family" nonsense which wasnt in the book (and thus, not in the 70s edittion....)
i especialy liked the oompa loompas... and big thumbs up for Danny Elfman.. i think he should take an apprentice , cant figure out what will happen if he WONT make OSTS anymore ... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The island would have been decent if they hadn't given away the entire plot in the trailers. I was talking to one of the guys doing marketing for dreamworks the other week and even his attitude was "What the ***** was with the trailer?" . One of the many factors (although one of the bigger ones) seen for the island's failure.

It effects how the audience views it. The film was obviously constructed for people knot to know the whole situation before hand. It makes the entire first act pointless and takes away any suspense in the entire film.

Hmm, I didn't know that the plot had been given away in the trailers. Some friends invited me to go with them watching the movie in the cinema. Thank god I didn't watch any trailers before. So when I saw the full movie it was a BIG surprise for me.
But... although I had no idea what the movie was about when it started I had that strange feeling from the very beginning on that something was wrong. And then... SHOCK! Matrix-Style. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The last few movies I saw in the theater...
War of the Worlds: I'd give it about... hmmm... ***/5 stars. I don't have much to say about this one, it had some nice special effects and decent action scenes, but there wasn't much out side of that, that I really liked.
Fantastic 4: http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif /5 Tiny Turner heads. I didn't think there was anything special here. The action scenes were few and far between (there where like what... two?). Dr. Doom was fairly lame, I was hoping they'd portray him better in the movie. Pretty uneventful C grade comic book hero movie stuff.
Land of the Dead: ****/5. I enjoyed this one, Compared to the DotD Remake and 28 Days later, this one had an old school zombie movie vibe to it. The Zombies weren't supercharged like they were in those other two movies, they stayed true to the classic Romeo zombie (with the exception that they were learning, but that was also kind of in Day of the Dead as well). The plot and the characters worked well enough for the type of movie that it was, although it felt like they were trying to cram to much stuff into such a short time frame.
Sin City: ****.5 /5. I loved this one, very stylish, very over the top, and it had some great characters. Not much more to say other then that.

Dukes of Hazzard.
I'd give this movie 4/5.
The story isn't the greatest in the world, and actually ends up being quite predictable, but if you after an action comedy then this is highly recommended. Jessica Simpson plays her role as eye candy as well as she needs to too.

the last two I saw were "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Walk the Line".
Harry Potter - 4 out of 5 stars. The movie was fun, but it felt like they filmed a lot and had to just take it out (which is understandable), and there are a few bits of teenage drama that feel like they are taken straight from 90210.
Walk the Line - 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. This is probably the best movie of the year for me. Joaquine Phoenix and Reese Whitherspoon were amazing together. Joaquine sounds a lot like Johnny Cash. It shows the rise and fall of Johnny Cash quite well and has one of the best endings I've seen in a while. Go see this movie.

It was ok. I didn't mind the pace but I thought the face-off with Voldemort could have been more deliberate. And while I think the series has finally found their feet with these last two films (Prisoner and this), I hate the theatrical aspects of the acting in both- Ralph Fiennes jumping around like he were in a musical. Oh and he should have been made to appear taller.

I saw Big Mommas House 2 last night. Didn't want to but the group of friends I was with wanted to see it. Ended up being better than I expected (mainly because Martin Lawrence exercised a bit of restraint for once). 3 out of 5.
Saw Chronicles of Narnia last week. Wasn't interested in it, but again it was probably better than I expected. (I thought it was gonna be kinda childish, and apart from children going home with strangers and being drugged, and children killing things, and a character getting their face eaten by a lion I guess it was a bit childish http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )
Anyway, I'd also give it 3 out of 5

Aahahaha! For a moment I really thought you said Chicken Little was better than Incredibles. Crazy, isn't it?
ISN'T IT?!
Did I forget to tell that watching the incredibles I was bored as hell. Pretty bad movie IMO. Didnt say chicken little was fantastic, I just like that it is more humorous that Disney movies lately.

Very, very meh. A confuse potpourri of The Ring, Silent Hill and a bunch of other stuff we've already seen ten times. This wouldn't make it automatically bad, but unfortunately the only "scares" are sudden loud noises. And even those you see coming from a mile away.
I gave it a second star because it looked nice at times.

Late post on this one, but I saw Hostel on opening day.
Believe it or not, it was actually a pretty good movie. I just can't wait for the "unrated" version http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
