View Full Version : Transparent textures and DukeRes

Any clues on how to get DukeRes to import images that have the transparent color? I've set the background always to the last color but whenever I run it in Build it always shows up as a image with a big pink background!
I've tried using Photoshop, Infranview, and MSpaint.
I've also tried importing images but DukeRes always complains that it only supports 256 colors (even though I use the default duke palette) or the image is all messed up. I've also tried pasting images, but with the same results as above.
Any suggestions or links to tutorials would be helpful
Thanks

you need the duke palette, its not the last color if i remember corectly, it was the second last or third last, there are 2 bright pink textures one is for transparency the other not.

Thanks for the info jimbob, but sadly I'm still having problems.. Its mostly likely photoshops fault (palette keeps fliping..) but anymore ideas would be appreciated
(Man you guys reply fast!)

Wrong Jimbob - it is the last colour - index 255 to be precise.
The problem is that art programs will not use this colour as a lower indexed one with the same RGB value already exists. Edit the transparant colour to a unique colour and do it again.

Thanks for the info Cyborg. I modified the first pinkish color in the palette to a different color and imported using DukeRes, launched Build and it worked perfectly!
Thanks

Get Paintshoppro (PSP). It's a must have when u're editing Duke stuff.
First, make sure you have a duke palette in PSP's format. You can easily make one by opening a screenshot or something from Duke Nukem 3D in PSP and then save the palette (colors -> save palette -> call it Duke.pal or something).
-Open the pic you want to import in Dukeres in PSP.
-Load the palette Duke.pal
-Colors -> Edit Palette -> click twice on the last colour and select some odd colour which isn't in the palette yet.
-Save this "new" palette as Duke2.pal or something.
-Load the palette over the picture.
-Select the last colour of the palette and put it on the background.
-Image->Mirror
-Save it as PCX and you're ready to import.
Might sound like a long road now but once you've done it one time it's a matter of seconds.
You might want to check some more explinations on my site: http://www.planetduke.com/kef in the editart help section.
Good luck.
