Hi all!
I have read in some templates coming with maps next thing:
" Map editors used: build and Mapmake "
I've never heard of 'Mapmake' before. It will be interesting to see it,
maybe it is better than build?
Thanks.

Maybe the authors of those maps (and text files) meant MAKEMAP (Which is the Redneck Rampage specific version of the build editor.)
Also, I've noticed that it's possible to use MakeMap in conjuction with Duke3D, but however, I have not been able to use Build in conjunction with Redneck Rampage. Isn't that strange...

On the other hand, maybe with the release of all the build and duke sources, that someone has created a better version of Build, maybe even better than Mapster.

MapMake is like Build, but it's far more stable.

The original version of Makemap.exe (or whatever) was good, the one used to create Redneck Rampage Rides Again and Redneck Deer Huntin' is a modified version of an earlier version of BUILD...which sucks ass. As a result, you cannot edit RR Rides Again and Deer Huntin' maps with the 'original' RR makemap.exe program, which sucks even more!

Speaking of Redneck Rampage whatever happened to Xatrix? I want to see the source code for that game released so a windows port can be made.
Company Profile: Xatrix Entertainment Inc.
Xatrix is a computer software developer who are known for their work on Kingpin: Life of Crime, the Quake II Mission Pack named The Reckoning, and the Redneck Rampage series.
Xatrix Entertainment were founded 1993 by Drew Markham and Barry Dempsy. Xatrix HQ is based in Santa Monica, California. They hit the scene with Cyberia, which won them a handfull of awards. Since then they have released the critically acclaimed Redneck Rampage and the official Quake2 mission pack - The Reckoning (which is widely regarded as the best of the two official packs). They have rapidly established themselves as masters of 3d gameplay.

Cyberia
Kingpin: Life of Crime
Quake 2 Mission Pack I: The Reconning
Redneck Rampage
Xatrix first game was Cyberia, a futuristic game that took place in the year 2027. Xatrix then began making games with a little more humor in them. Redneck Rampage, where Leonard and Bubba save the day, Redneck Rampage Rides Again, Bubba and Leonard are back to save the day, and Redneck Deer Hunting, an entertaining hunting experience all without ever wearing blaze orange. Then came The Reckoning a Quake II Mission Pack. Now they bring us Kingpin: Life of Crime.
Wolfenstein2000 has been rumored more than once around here. Ever since the Xatrix Entertainment shake-ups shortly before the release of KingPin word has been leaking out. Well this LA New Times feature on Xatrix Entertainment finally spills the beans. The article is a pretty big feature on Xatrix and violence in video games, but this quote was the one thing that grabbed me most: (thanks Andy)
...the West L.A.-based Xatrix Entertainment, is already well into the creation of its newest game, a reformulation of a popular World War II POW fantasy that has enjoyed two previous incarnations by other companies. Markham and his handful of computer artists and programmers hope to have their Castle Wolfenstein 2000 in stores by Christmas next year.
Xatrix Rumors Confirmed 8/27/1999 3:35:00 PM by Evil Avatar
As you have been reading right here on Evil Avatar.com, FGNOnline is now reporting on the closure of Xatrix Entertainment. Here is the whole article,
Xatrix Soon-to-be Deceased
Industry: The name Xatrix will soon be no more, but the sanguinary team will live on. Click through for the scoop.
According to sources at Interplay, Xatrix is on the verge of closure as a company. Members of the Kingpin team will continue to work with the publisher, but the moniker for the new outfit has yet to be revealed.
Despite the explanation of the entire team going on vacation after the release of the hyper-violent shooter, Xatrix's offices have now been closed for a number of weeks. "If it says they're closed on the voicemail, you can assume they're closed," said a highly-placed source close to the company.
The reason for the regrouping of the team is apparently to do with the company that initially funded the venture, although details are sketchy. No-one from Xatrix is available for comment at this juncture.
So what of Kingpin 2? Interplay insiders on both sides of the Atlantic have given the same comments: "I would not be at all surprised if the sequel to Kingpin is already in development. It's been a highly successful game. A sequel makes sense."
News emerged yesterday of the Kingpin crew battling it out with Raven for rights to develop the sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, a Quake 3: Arena-powered blaster dubbed Wolfenstein 3D: Return to Castle Wolfenstein by the British press. Whether or not the newly-named team will be working on this peach of a title, applying its gore-splattered talents to a Kinpin sequel, or developing the two side-by-side remains to be see.
Expect an official announcement in the coming weeks.
I do hate to say, "I told you so." but, "I told you so."

Drew Markham later went on to found Xatrix and create some successful titles including Redneck Rampage. Xatrix went out of business a few years ago, but essentially just changed its name to Gray Matter Studios where Drew and his crew recently released their best title yet, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. You may recognize Drew's name in Trade Wars as one of the ship manufacturers, Markham Space Tech.

XATRIX where awsome. One of the greatest things to happen to the BUILD Engine.

To those wishing to get mapmake, it comes with EDuke 2.0 which is linked in the 3D Realms download page under Duke Nukem 3D.
I'm almost certain there is a simliar if not better version of BUILD at rtcm. It all depends what you need a differant BUILD for... larger work area, more sectors etc..

- Increased sector (maxsectoers 16384), sprite (maxsprites 16384) and wall limits (maxwalls 16384)
- If you go over the standard Duke3D map limits, the colors in 2D mode will make the text turn yellow (normally white).
- "mouse look"can be toggled by pressing 'N' in 3D mode.
- "3" can be used instead of the keypad enter for lap top users.
- f4 will change graphics modes
- compare to Redneck Rampage's mapedit
[edit: Link removed at author's request]
just don't get ass crazy on downloading from this server. Its a private one.
I'll probably come back in a few days to delete that link. Please don't repost that link anywhere or link to this post, just give them the file if they want it.

F#%K!
This domain is for sale... I think i'll find nothing here......
oops sorry man didn't check the link out first.
I don't understand why you just don't download the EDuke archive or use the newbuild.exe, like suggested prevously? If you can't patch your duke with eduke then download the patch that patches your game before you add the EDuke patch.
or download EDuke20a
Go ask Gray Matter, see if they have it. There the old XATRIX peeps. Nag them for the source code why your there.
So Know one mailed it to you yet? assuming that kind of stuff happens.

I've found it at last, and thanks for your patience.
but what are the differences between mapmake and build/mapster ?
Maartn

Different between build and makemap = makemap grid is much bigger http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif You know, if you look at some maps in BUILD, you see it's out the grid (like the in map Freedom for example), well that cuz it's builded with makemap, which is bigger (and better btw http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Dunno what mapster was again lol :P My new map is already over the build grid lol http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
