Both important although I'm a great fan of neither. Kubrick was a creator moreso than tarantion who appropriates almost everything.

Kubrik, for the usual reasons: Dr. Strangelove, The Shining etc

Kubrick, Tarantino seems to have lost his ability to deliver fresh dialogue.

But who directs this one, if the directors themselves are fighting who has supreme rights over the director's chair?

kubrick has made a lot more films than tarantino and they have all been great. tarantino has directed only 4 films (kill bill only counts as one).

Kubrick, by a long shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tarantino SUCKS. His movies are all about making the most ***** up conversation and lots of parallel stories. Maybe this was revolutionizing in his first movie, but it gets old quick! He is way overrated. People just think they seem so intelligent when they say they like him. Come on!!!

well you have to admit that both pulp fiction and reservoir dogs are really well made/directed/written. jackie brown i haven't seen but i've heard it's so-so. kill bill i quite liked but didn't think it was as amazing as everyone kept saying. i think people just liked it because of the hype factor - i took it as face value and came out with a 7.5 out of 10 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif on the other hand.
it's pretty tough to better someone who has all these films under his belt:
paths of glory
spartacus
lolita
dr. strangelove
2001: a space odyssey
a clockwork orange
the shining
full metal jacket
all of these films i give a 9 out of 10

Kubrick
Tarantino just steals all the time. I used to think he was a great guy. Then I started watching movies from asia and italy. Most of his movies just have things in them that are taken from other movies. Resevoir Dogs is just City on Fire.

Both are great directors, but the style they use and the things they are going for are so far apart it's like comparing apples and alien technology. Or like comparing rock music to classical. It just doesen't work that way.
But I appreciate Kubrick more because 2001: Space Odyssey is one of my all time favorite movies and the thrill it gives is just amazing. Barry Lyndon, Paths of Glory, Dr.Strangelove, Shining, Clockwork Orange are all excellent movies too. So yeah, Kubrick all the way.
Tarantino rules too.

Kubrick, no doubt. Tarantino makes nice pop-corn flicks (at least, that's how I remember most of the movies he's made that I've seen), though.

Resevoir Dogs is just City on Fire.
My friends and I are big Chow Yun-Fat fans, anyways one time we rented City on Fire after hearing all the Reservoir Dogs comparisons. Hehe, its funny people still think this. The basic premise of the crime and an undercover cop is there, sure. The rest of the movies are completely different entirely, as is every character and the point of the movies. And just about everyone would agree Res Dogs is the better film.
Anyways, my vote's for Tarantino. Kubrick is legendary, but Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie ever made. I'd say Kubrick's best is Dr Strangelove, worst Lolita. Tarantino's worst being Jackie Brown. They're both awesome of course. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Out of curiousity Boo Boo Juice, I'd like to know what these other films from Asia and Italy you've seen that Tarantino "ripped off".

Having never met either of them; nor seen them toe2toe...
A good example of what is known as a "faulty comparison"
If you have NOT seen "A Clockwork Orange", then the DGA won't let you make movies.
If things that inspire or inculcate a sense of what the word "awesome" means... AND
you think of something 'equally' COOL to put together and show everybody... what's stopping you from doing just that?
(that's meant as encouragement, mister) ... the 2nd person tone Always grabs attention, oh sentient.
isn't it a bit unfair?
what about Roman Polanski vs. Oliver Stone?
what about Fritz Lang vs. that other magician?
'if you don't learn from what inspires you... you're crazy' -paraphrased Chuck Jones-------_-+=^=+-_-------

Kubrick.
Tarantinos repertoire seems rather limited to me.

Tarantino doesn't deserve to be compared with Kubrik.

How about comparing Scorsese and Kubrick?
I'd go with Scorsese simply because I like the type of movies he does more.
Kubrick without a doubt has more variation in his movie making, though.

The thing I really appreciate about Kubrik is that he was a thorough and meticulous filmmaker. In Eyes Wide Shut, there was a scene where Nicole Kidman's character looked absolutely devestated, as though she had been up all night crying. When an interviewer asked how she was able to pull the scene off so convincingly, she said that she had literally stayed up all night crying. Most directors would have asked their performers to fake it, but Kubrik demanded authenticity.
His approach to filmmaking was to keep reshooting a scene until he noticed a spark, something interesting that caught his attention. Then he'd focus on that and keep reshooting and refining until he had exactly what he wanted. That's why his films took so long to make, but the end results were unfailingly extraordinary.

I've only seen a couple of Kubrick movies and they were pretty good. So I'll vote for Kubrick.
Although I've enjoyed a couple of Tarantino's movies I find him to be too self indulgent (and he keeps casting himself in his movies even though he can't act http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif ).
Oddly enough, my favourite Tarantino movie is True Romance, and he didn't even direct it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like them both. Tarantino hasn't made as many movies as Kubrick so it's not that easy to compare since he could make a really great movie in the future or a real bomb. I'd say it's too early in his career to compare him to Kubrick right now.
Kubrick has made many movies that I love but he also made 2001 which I hate. Full Metal Jacket was also meh. I like all of Tarantino's movies though and love Pulp Fiction (I could say it's my favorite movie).

Why even compare the two? They're on two completely different levels. It would be like comparing David Lynch to James Cameron.

Those are two of my all time favorite films!
Never saw any Tarantino films, but to date, I liked The Shining from Kubrick. That was the only films I saw from both of them.

I've never heard of Kubrick, so I'll say Tarantino. I've seen and love almost all of his work as a director. (I have not seen the ER episode, and not the whole Jackie Brown movie)

Stupid to choose a "winner" of the two, completely different movies. I love Tarantino, my favourites being the beginning of Dusk Till Dawn, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Of Kill Bill I believe nr 2 is best, but it's one movie, so ok.
My Kubrick favourites are Dr Strangelove and FMJ.

Either that, or it's become less of a priority to him. I assume you're referring to the Kill Bill movies, and you're exactly right-- the dialogue was subpar.
Still, Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece, and Tarantino's knack for dialogue is in evidence in several other films. I also admire his enthusiasm for film.
Kubrick's filmography speaks for itself.

Full Metal Jacket was a bore for me. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut, a movie many others seem to dislike.

It's like Tarantino made a couple of successful films then just trying.
