They will probably end up as "abandoned".....they are supported by no one, however illegal to copy. Who developed the games? I'm sure they would know.

Abandonware falls into that grey area. While I suppose it's technically illegal to download it, it can't possibly be hurting anybody because the games are no longer available for sale and the copyright holders no longer exist.

You guys must be joking, right? Criterion developed the first 2 and was published by Acclaim. Oh a check at Mobygames shows that Criterion holds the rights which now belongs to EA! So whether EA will publish the first 2 remains to be seen.

EA won't do something like that, lol. It's not their nature.

Acclaim fizzed out in September of 2004 after being on shaky grounds for two years. In affect it closing down all operations and ceasing to exist.
Juiced, a game Acclaim was developing was picked up by THq and was released.
however, alot of the other games they developed were either not picked up or in limbo. Though there has been reports the guys who were the heads of Acclaim are resurfacing with a new company, which may or may not pick up the Acclaim name. But other than that I haven't heard much else out of them.

Double Dragon 2 was made by Acclaim? I thought they just published it. The NES Double Dragon games are superior to the arcade ones, so if it was Acclaim who redid DD2 (since the arcade one was basicly DD1 with a new 1st level), bravo. They did one great game.
Yesterday, I saw a copy of Virtual Bart (a classic crappy Acclaim game), and had to laugh. I said "I remember that shitty game!". It was $5, I should buy it just to laugh at it's crappiness with my friends!
