The links that 3DRealms have provided all offer up a 21.77mb file. Proasms 23mb file will be a ready to go and rebuilt file for the jonof port, so the size is comparable.

Where the hell did you get a 40+mb file from ?

ahhh, i got your prob now.

the official WD grp file is 46.4mb
proasms is only 22.7mb

seems like a lot is lost ?

Maybe, to me it seemed like some stuff wasn't finished. But that might just be how the project was left.

For instance there are several places in the game where it feels like new bosses would have been.

Right away I can see the one diff in your version than the 40+mb version. Look at the main menus on both of them.

The main release had ALL the original art and anims.
I left out the the following as it is just a duplicate of the original and is identical except for a few menu items which have little or no concequence on the game except swell the download.

The reason all the files are needed is that in 1998 GRP files were not catered for like today with JFSW, thats why I created SWGroup if you remember.
If WD used SWGroup it could have halved its size.

Nice fix Proasm - one thing i notice tho - using your swp.exe the text for the first skill level "tiny grasshopper" is not visible -but using sw.exe it is clearly visible.

Yes it does that the moment a Swcustom.txt file is involved, even if that file only has one level entry.

did you check the art files in the wd grp against the originals ? I know they share the same name, but are their contents the same ? i.e new artwork ?

if they are then a wise move on taking them out.

Yes I did check the art works, one by one and there were about 4 needed out of 1000's which were in the menu only.
One could add these few as .png's
Dump all the duplicate sounds and anims plus about 10 duplicate maps.

Might be worth doing the voc dropping to trim that download some more though, seeing as you've gone halfway there already.

Well, had a bit of a play last night, and got to level 2. For the life of me i couldn't find the last secret and enemy on lvl 1. Was gutted...

EDIT: The new one says it now, but the old one DID NOT.

Hello ProAsm!

About WantDest_v12.zip:
It's a good idea, to make the giant download smaller.
There is TILES017.ART missing.
TILES017.ART contains an altered anime girl (tiles 4594 - 4597) it wears in wanton destruction a burea dress instead of swimsuit.
You shoul add it in the next version.

Also add a textfile with info about who you are, what you dit on the original, and contact info.

FunDuke... the Anime Girl you mention was supposed to be in the Rooftops level right before you meet "you know who". I think she is even supposed to have a couple of lines warning you about it, but I don't know what they recorded. Not sure why she isn't showing up or if they never got around to placing her.

If anyone is able to fix the boss sequences and have them included in ProAsm's version then I'm sure Joe could be convinced to do an update to the 3DR Front Page Story and point out the JFSW compatible version. I think it would make some people very happy and their lives easier. It'd be good to hear about people playing through it first though to make sure it works from start to finish.

Edit: Actually if I run the boss maps by themselves (extracted from the GRP file) the bosses and the anime girl spawn fine. So I guess it's something on the code side.

I'm inclined to agree. Looking for the problem at the moment.

Edit: Well, if you launch the game from the command line with the -level20 parameter, the bosses appear. If you start a new game and use the swtrek20 cheat, they don't.
Edit 2: Or not quite. I'll shut up until I fix it.

NotWieder3DR what is the sequence ?
The new v12 and v13 - 2.9 meg files I have up has the new Zilla sequence in it which the 20 meg one did not.
The sequence is in the ZFCIN.ANM file which is not much different to the original except for what is said by Lo Wang and the 'sub titles' at the bottom.

Edit: Actually if I run the boss maps by themselves (extracted from the GRP file) the bosses and the anime girl spawn fine. So I guess it's something on the code side.

Check the latest v13 upload.
Everything is there.
I played v12 right through without cheating, something i never do, and it all looked great to me, could not fault anything, except what Funduke pointed out.

I would be great, to extract only the relevant graphics from the *.art files and put them via a *.def file into the game. That would make the download again smaller.
But AFAIK, JonoF's port currently doesn't support to include sprites in that way. Only texture graphics. But again, i don't know that exactly. I was so far only interested in the 3d models.

There's a level that I get to, called "Skyscraper", and whenever I get teleported to an area that has the red card I pick it up but I'm trapped in that area. The doors won't open or anything. I'm wondering, am I doing something wrong or is this an unfortunate bug I ran into?

Now, after downloading end extracting, i can see, that you did it already with the girl.
Will you do it also with the still included *.art files? They contain still enemy art, that is alredy in SW.GRP and blow the size of the download up.
Having an as small as possible WD download is an obsession for me! The first took me several hours.

I tested the rooftops map (it's different than the skyscraper map). It works fine other than the bosses not spawning if you play it legit. The only cheating I had to do for that map was swghost into the cubbyholes where the keys were held that would have normally opened up after you killed the bosses.

Not sure the problem that the guys above are explaining, but I haven't loaded the map up to check. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well I resorted to just plainly cheat and proceeded through the rest of the game with no problems, until I'm at the last level called "Skylike" (at least I think it's the last level). I believe a simple work-around was extracting the map from the .GRP-file and launch it as an usermap. Don't know for sure, I haven't tried it out myself.

Btw, you're T-6K from CC?

That's what I meant. I got so little sleep last night (My legs were itching me like mad last night, no thanks to those damn flees that somehow keep comming into my room) and I had just gotten up when I made that post, so a few details will kinda slip my mind. Anyways, I think the WD that was found was a bit of an unpolished version. That may explain some of the bugs in a couple of the maps. I'm not suprized since the company did go out of buisness and was placed on the shelves. There weren't many new things in this expansion, but it was the quality of the Expansion I liked, and to me that's what counts in a game. I did like the level design for the levels of the expansion (though some did feel a little too maze like) and some of the new things that this expansion had (such as going out of a jumbo jet plane to get a keycard. Man that was tricky, and insane of Lo Wang to do! :O). I do hope that there is a 'patch' of some sort to fix the boss loading problems, though I doubt it since this game is around 8 years old. I would have definatly eaten this expansion up if it was released in the market years ago, but I still enjoyed playing throught the levels. I am irked that I can't quite beat it. Has anyone beaten the game yet, and if so what happens in the end? Does Lo Wang actually get rid of Zilla this time?

Shadow Warrior will always remain my favorite "classic DOS game", and I have played through it more times than any other DOS game (Even more than the Doom and Quake series). I loved it's style, gameplay, level design, and it's hillarious and memorable main character Lo Wang. Even to this day, I still play the game on occasion (The last time I played it was earlier this year around January). I can play through it many times and never get tired of it.

Ive made a little bat file... for all of you who run Wanton without the JonoFSW Port...

If your game runs slow when you try to run wanton.exe with WDMSound then try this bat file... Run it once and run SW.exe as normall.. but now it is in fact the wanton game... ohh and run the bat file again to cange the game back...

What the file does is rename the SW.GRP to WT.GRP And rename the WT.GRP To SW.GRP....

Theres a bug..... well it works but... well the map names are wrong (when you use automap) and the main menu is the same as in SW.....

so i will edit the bat file and post the updated one... Later

EDIT:
Here It is and all is normall now.. New instructions...

Place the bat file in your sw directory, run the bat file... apply the cli2nop fix too the new sw.exe.. Run the bat file again and your done...

Just Run wanton.exe as normall... And everything should work...

What this one does is rename sw.exe to temp.tmp,
then it renames wanton.dat to sw.exe,
And finally it renames the new temp.tmp to wanton.dat

In this order... to prevent errors when using the bat file...

The 23 odd meg version is for the original SW as it could not use modified GRP files so even the smallest TC had to add everything, hence the reason SwGroup was made.
There is approx 20 megs (zipped) of stuff which is not required as you already have it.

I have never had any Boss problems.
Maybe its because you play on a lower skill that 3 as I believe that is a problem with several TC's.

The original GRP files I had, v1.2 and 1.1 did not have the girl and some other tiles in them, hence the final v1.3 otherwise everything else is there.
I have played the v1.3 twice and everything works as its supposed to, as I say, I dont see a problem.

Im removing wanton Fix zip..

As you can just run cli2nop on Wanton.dat instead..

just wondering
see my previous post..running DosBox, moved to SWARRIOR directory
at SWARRIOR prompt, typed in WantDest .BAT and got...nothing

oh damn, I'm running into walls now

btw, I tried 3drealms' version of WD and it told me "sorry, you can't run this .exe in DOS" so there you are

any help appreciated, ie a link to the cracked file (big or small)
