Good .avi codec for WMP

What would be a Good .avi codec for WMP?

you're not making sense. WMP is only one player among many and AVI is a container format for Video which can be encoded in any number of different codecs. If you install a codec it doesn't matter what player you use, the file will be playable on the cmoputer aslong as the proper codec is installed. Some of the most used codecs would be Divx and Xvid though which are good for what they're used.

um, windows media IS a codec. so i guess that would be a good one to use with windows media player http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif either that or divx/xvid which basically use the same engine but tweaked a bit more. i heard divx6 is even better quality but you have to pay to use it to encode files. you don't need to pay to encode WMV

you don't need to pay to encode XVIX and i'm not sure divx xvid has ANYTHING to do with WMV and using WMV with WMP doesn't make it better or anything, WMP sucks ass anyways.
VLC can play pretty much everything though i prefer BSplayer
