I just downloaded the demo and I have mixed feelings about this game. I haven't really played it much yet as I'm too tired to think right now, so hopefully it'll seem better tomorrow.
The main reason why I'm a bit sceptical is that I always loved the pre-rendered environments in Myst games, they were always very beatiful.. art almost.
This game is in real 3D, just like realMyst was, and I don't know if I appreciate that.
Also, I read in the game faq that this game will be easier than some of the previous Myst games (it said something like this - "previous Myst games have gotten harder and harder and this game will turn that trend"). I don't mind them making it a bit easier, but I hope they won't screw up and make it TOO easy either.
What are your thoughts on this?

Finished it http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It was actually very easy, I figured out every one of the puzzles in an instant, I didn't even have to think.
And I had HUGE troubles finishing Myst IV (I even used a walkthrough at times in that game, something I really regret now), so this game seems to be quite a lot easier. But then again, it's a very short demo and it will most likely get harder later on.
I'm all for making the games a little bit easier as some of the old ones are insane at times, but for the demo they have reduced the difficulty level by WAY too much.

To be fair, the older Myst games were prerendred 3d images... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Also the graphics in myst 5 are better than myst 1 so if you liked Myst 1 you shouldn't really bash the new 3d graphics. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's exactly what I said http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
"This game is in real 3D, just like realMyst was, and I don't know if I appreciate that."
I would prefer it to be prerendered as that can look a LOT better.

i was pretty bummed when i saw the last MYST game ever is done in a 3d environment like URU... the graphics just arent as realistic as previous MYST games like Exile and Revelations. but im still looking foward to the game and i hope the puzzles arent on the same level as URU's as they were crap and not the typical style of puzzles you'd expect from a MYST game.

That doesn't make much sense to me. It seems like by going full 3D, they are upping the system requirements and lowering the image quality for no good reason.

pretty much. everything looks really rounded and doesnt even have any lighting effects with bump mapping.

Another thing that makes me kinda sceptical about this game is that they made it very fast compared the the previous games. I hope it won't be rushed or anything.

I just finished the demo over, and I'm liking it a bit better this time around. The graphics aren't exactly ugly, it's just that it's ugly compared to the previous game.
It does make some puzzles less annoying, like that dome puzzle so I guess it's good for something, but I'd still prefer prerendered http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For me, put it this way. I was so crazed about Myst 4 that I spent months on their forum, and 3 weeks participating in their crazy contests, winning a free copy of the game in the end. However, after looking at the demo, I will likely not be buying Myst 5. Such a waste of a game. It looks like for me, Riven will always be the best game I ever played.

I also liked that the collectors edition of Myst IV was only released in Europe.. finally we Europeans get something exclusive! Yay http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PLayed and completed the demo and loved it. I'll definately be buying this puppy.
I also want to pick up Myst: Uru. The demo for that was pretty good as well.
Riven was my favorite of the series, but the one age with the jungle and all the plants in Myst 3: Exile was absolutely beautiful. The puzzles in Exile were the best puzzles of any of the games in my opinion. I liked how you got around in Riven better though, lots of things to transport yourself around in (like that underwater vehical! and the car that took you from the first island you start on to the next... very kewl!)
This is the first official Myst that is full 3D (Uru was and realMyst) but this is fully 3D and look beautiful to boot. If you played the demo, make sure you set it to Advanced Free movement before moving around. Then you can move around like in any 3D game with WSAD keys + mouse.

Yeah though I bet there was a great sadness here when a Myst collector edition wasn't being released here. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

When I did freemove I kept getting snagged on stuff in the environment, and one time even fell through the map! It was highly annoying.

Sounds like something on your end. I done nothing but freemove. I explored every corner of the demo and eventually solved it with zero problems.

i bought the MYST 4 collectors edition and it came with playing cards... except there wasnt 52 cards! what the hell is the point?
anyway, ill still get the CE of MYST 5.
oh yeah, im also bummed becuase since its 3d, the characters are 3d also, not realistic actors... now theres a step down

Yeah, the 3d characters aren't as good as real people, but at least they're good quality 3D characters. They have facial expressions, good body movement etc... it won't be the same without the original guy in there, but what can you do.

I agree with Night Hacker on this one. It kinda sucks that it's real 3D, but we should try to enjoy it for what it is. It might be a very good Myst game afterall. I really hope it will be.
