as you may not know, I have not been posting on this board for some time. I had some computer issues I needed to fix.
---------------------------------------------
when I started my long gone AMD computer one day, I noticed that my bios told me that my floppy disk was damaged and something about an "unknown flash type". afterwards, I proceeded to scan my computer for viruses. I scanned with "antivir" and there was no culprit behind the bios change, so I scanned with "stinger" and it also didn't come up with any results. I then thought of why this was happening, how did I screw my computer up, nothing came to mind.

a few restarts later, my computer would not boot up at all. there was no video and no error sound. I told my father about the problem. he recommended a new power supply because he thought that my current power supply was insufficiant.

so, we went to the store to get a new power supply. this store had no refunds and this was the place I bought my AMD computer from. after waiting in this long line, buying the product and driving home, we opened the case opening of my computer.

the diffrent power supply had no effect on the computer, the computer still would not boot up. my dad tested it on his computer and the power supply worked perfectly there. this was when we thought the motherboard had fried and we had to get a whole new system.

the replacement computer was the same model that recently fried on me. when we booted that computer up, it ran normally for 30 seconds (at the most) and then it would just power down by itself. after that, we used the power supply we had bought some time ago to see if it would work; and it didn't work. a few restarts later, the coumputer would not boot up at all; it was in the same condition that my last computer was in. "I think the computer came pre-fried for us..." I said.

we went back to the store to return the computer and the power supply for store credit. a few days later, my dad found another replacement computer that was better then my old AMD. after some time and some tinkering with the computer to make it actually run with my harddrive and installed components, I'm back.

to sum it all up, my AMD processor fried and took the bios and motherboard with it, the computer after that already came pre-fried and this computer will have less chance of frying.

That's a serious run of bad luck. You must have been buying some crappy systems.

Emachines, HP and other branded computers put cheap parts in them. My old HP is dead right now. My custom built machine which I'm using right now hasn't had a single problem since I bought it. When you build them yourself, you don't run into any of these problems. My HP's DVD drive failed on me within 2 weeks of having the system.

Or he has really dirty power which is slowly f*cking everything up over time.

Unless he has a UPS, which would correct most of those problems.

The average user usually just has a surge supressor. I just picked up a UPS last week to save my system from major damage when it hits.

now I have an hp with a 2.7 celeron, 700 meg of ram and a 40 gig hardrive (my 80 gig fried)

the official culprit: my original campter fried and took everything except the cards with it, the second computer was pre-fried, my third computer almost worked and it was fast. my last coputer is a little slow but it is stable.
