Have any of you heard of a new game by Interplay called Heart of Darkness. It features a kid that built a rocket ship with stuff in his backyard, wears a funny helmet, and gos to other planets fighting aliens.....

How the HELL can they get away with that?!? id should sue, or something! It's a blatant rip-off on Commander Keen (for those out there of who ARE thick)!

AAGGH!!! I'm going to write them a letter!! And it won't be asking about their upcoming game titles, if you catch my drift!

You can't patent a concept for a game. If that was the case, DIP / Apogee / 3D Realms / Epic / Monolith / etc. probably would have needed to pay ID software (or other company) for the FPS shooter concept.

That's right. You can only patent an expression of an idea, not the idea itself. If the implementation was significantly similar then id would be able to take legal action

What are you kidding? What do you see in the Dopefish? If it's true that "Without a big green fish it's not Keen" Then only Keen4 is really keen.

Yeah, id Software doesn't care about an entire game that has the same story, but when a free modification of their own engine (Generations) they get all mad. WTF!!!

But I guess, it's possible. Generations did have edzact copies of maps and art, and Heart of Darkness uses same story, but diffrent badies and game art.

True. If ID cared enough about Keen to make a lawsuit over him, they'd probably care enough to hand over the rights to Tom Hall.

I just read some more about the game and he's trying to save his dog, heh, umh, that sounds alot like id's Rescue Rover. There's also going to be a Heart of Darkness movie.

Also I think if id Software cared enough about Keen they wouldn't give the rights to Tom, if they didn't care at all about Keen, they'd sell it to Tom.

Hold on. The guy in Heat of Darkness isn't wearing a helmet its a hat. BUT ITS STILL A LOT LIKE KEEN!!! Id just doesn't care.......stupid
