The quality isn't that good but atleast you get to see the engine. Sorry if this has been posted already. I don't recall seeing it here before.

Some info regarding the demo:
- It was a CryENGINE 2 alpha build demonstration
- It's the new project Crytek is working on that will be released by EA
- It was not a movie but a real-time demonstration
- The game ships at the same time with Windows Vista
- It's said to be the first DX10 game
I got that and the video link from this Shacknews thread: http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?comments=38699&10766239

can i say i wasn't overly impressed? it just looks like far cry but with some added shadowing and better physics (although nothing current gen can't do). the head at the end looked good though i must admit.

I don't think they are gonna cut out Win XP just because Vista is coming.
Hell, some games today are still able to use Win95/98.
The fact that it's DX10 kindof pisses me off, but it should still work on 9.0.

Yeah, it is a annoying but I guess we all have to move on. There won't be any DX10 (isn't it called WGF?) for XP. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Although I'm expecting a DX9 version because most of the people will probably be using that.

Iggy what are you smoking? That looks like a massive improvement over CryEngine 1.x! Much more detailed environment(which isn't static to the engine, I know). Better lighting and shadows, interactive environments including destructive buildings, realistic clouds(speaking of which, I wonder if you'll be able to fly a plane or something in FC2), even nicer water, advanced shaders, buncha other stuff. Well just look at it, doesn't matter what's new and what's not, it looks great and is percievably an improvement over the last engine.
I think it looks magnificent, I've been looking forward to seeing what Crytek's next engine(and game) project would be, and CryEngine 2 doesn't look to dissapoint. I hope the game that comes with it is an improvement aswell(seems like nobody actually licenses their engines, despite their awsomeness). Far Cry really was a breath of fresh air as an fps, and has even more potential. And I like the jungle sounds in the video, that was one thing missing from the first game.

I just hope they don't remove "I'M GONNA SHOOT YOU IN THE FACE!" That was the best part of FarCry. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I wonder how far the draw distances are in this and if it streams the levels. If so then I could really imagine flying planes in the game.

i've not been smoking anything actually http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif there's really nothing that spectacular about that demo that i haven't seen already. the clouds are no different from the clouds in IL2 sturmovic, water doesn't impress me anymore since you can't get much better than HL2's water and the physics are the same as any other game with a good physics engine - only difference being the buildings were built from the ground up to be destroyed and fragmented into lots of little bits when you drive a truck over them. but that kind of stuff is very possible using the source engine for e.g.
it was pretty hard to see from that video just what the engine looked like because the quality is so crap (anyone have a better quality vid?) but really the only thing that stood out was the guy's head at the end which looked quite real with the new shaders.
i don't know how you guys can be so impressed by that video since it is so low res you can hardly see anything.

I think it looks very promising. I know of no current gen engine that handles all of those things. Ig, you can kid yourself all you want, but saying that HL2's water looks better is just a matter of opinion... they're just shaders. As for the comparative technology involved, the CryEngine 2 looks like the most advanced engine i've seen - more so than the unreal 3 engine... though i didn't see soft shadowing techniques....

My mistake. I just took this statement at face value.
water doesn't impress me anymore since you can't get much better than HL2's water
Since i saw and played FarCry before HL2 i always use that as the first decent water i saw. Even Morrowind's water ain't that great...

You don't, naturally. But if you want to have some land too, which I imagine most games do, you'll need something of a shoreline. It's true though, shorelines are important. The Wave Race games' biggest fault as far as the water goes is the unrealistic way it reacts to the shoreline (it doesn't). When using shaders, it's the same deal. You can just see how unnatural it is if there isn't some effect breaking the water up. That's what he speaks of.

maybe in small canals, but take a look at the ocean in the coastline levels!
it's the same square pattern in the water over and over.
I didn't see that in far cry.
