That cow is kind retarded looking.
I like the first one until it got boring and just pissed me off to play in general. Hopefully the reviews will say it didnt happen that way this time.

Wow. I didn't think I'd see this happen anytime soon. Let's hope the reviewers are right this time, eh?

Totally agree. I think the reviews actually did the game a disservice, even though it got high praise. It was a classic example of reviewers having no idea of the long term appeal (in this case lack of appeal) of a game. Unfortunately for gamers, the long term impact of B&W was significantly more important than the short term "wow" factor.

The only interest I have in a game like this is the sandbox mode. If you can just jump right in and play with the creatures and do cool stuff then I will consider it, I have no interest in actually playing the game though.

Trevor Chan's Capitalism II was heralded by some business educators in high colleges as a great game (mainly for the simulation aspect of business), but reviews kill it because A) how many people really want to get into the cogs and gears of actual business simulation (most tycoon games cut it out because the average pleblian doesn't have the mindscape to sit there and micromanage), and B) If it isn't popular or has every bell, whistle or Tornado siren, it is going to be a hard sell.
Black & White suffered from people assuming this game was what it wasn't, or they tried to think it was more than what was given. I think that happens alot where people get a game expecting some grand fairytale of the best game ever and get let down like a five dollar rendevous in a speak easy.
I'm looking forward to this game, I hope some of the things that did take away from the game are fixed, but I think everyone learns a second time around. If not leave them spinning for many more times until someone vomits and gets the picture.

There was an event on in Denmark, and you could play B&W2. It's meant to be great. It improves all that was wrong with the original, adding an RTS element. The RTS aspect dissapointed some, as it's quite basic.
I just hope the terrible tutorial at the start will be skipable.

As in "like the first one". I actually agree with Drazula on this point, that the original Black & White had a tremendous initial "Wow!" factor but little long-term appeal.

I think they listened pretty well to the complaints from the original. I'm expecting this one to be a lot less work for the gamer! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Being a "Good God" was too much!

It was also horribly unbalanced since the AI god could blatantly cheat. It could interact with objects miles outside of its zone of influence. I remember planting trees around my alter to make the worshippers happy, then return later only to notice that the trees were inexplicably missing. Eventually I noticed my rival god's hand zipping across the island, snatching a tree, then heading back to his zone.
Maybe this sequel will be much improved, but there's no way I'm going to be an early adopter this time time.

Not to forget the times when it was scripted for them to take over your village, and you had to get them back with ridiculous ammounts of belief required. The annoying tutorial that treated you like an idiot too. Molyneux said in an interview awhile ago that "We spent more time on the first 3 lands than on any other parts of the game, and they turned out to be the worst parts.", so true.
I spent far more time in skirmish mode.

I read the IGN review. This one sounds like a definitely miss to me. According to the article, there's still a lot of micromanagement involved with taking care of your villagers. The reviewer said that at times it felt like you were playing a mayor rather than an omnipotent diety. That was one thing that really bugged me about the first game, that the villagers couldn't figure out how to do simple tasks on their own, and it sounds like the sequel is much the same. Basically, the game won't let you play an aloof god who occasionally lights up lazy villagers with a lightning bolt to keep the town productive.
hmmmm drazula....pimping a non ID/ first person shooter game....what am i missing? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
is it using the doom 3 engine or something http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I do get tired of pointing this out but again you realise that was only due to your playing style don't you? If you just give the villagers what they want they will become reliant on you. If you don't they'll figure it out themselves.

I tried that style, too. Unforunately, all my villagers died while I was off training my creature. As much as I tried, I was never able to establish self-sufficient villages.

You need to give some of the villagers jobs.
Mountain Man

And that's exactly the kind of tedious micromanagement I'm talking about. Why can't the people decide for themselves what jobs need to be done to keep themselves from dying out? I'm supposed to be a god, for crying out loud! I shouldn't have to tell my people when to chop down trees or have sex!

Lionhead should've been working with both creature AND villager AI in B&W2...
