I work at a place called Symbium (www.symbium.com) that develops a product called ISAC. ISAC stands for Intellegent Secure Autonomic Controller. A hardware/software solution capable of solving most server errors easily while allowing for remote access regardless of system state.

It's pretty new and i've yet to see anyone else in the market come close to something this nifty. Maybe i'm bias since i work here but what do you guys think? Nifty? Useful? I know some people who visit the forums have servers, is this kind of thing something that blows your skirts up? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

So let me guess. It's some kind of Linux system on a chip that interfaces with the host computer and has some automatic diagnostic features? I'm pretty sure I've seen that before.

I use VNC (TightVNC) with a custom software to make nat to nat connections and client managemtent.
Its free and works wonders http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

More like it's a pci card with it's own memory/cpu/os/power supply/network connection and the ability to not only report on problems but fix them as well. Since it's independant of the server you can set up policies not even a dumb systems admin can change since no matter what he/she did to the server ISAC would undo unless they had access to ISAC. Even if the computer is blue screened or needs to be remotely rebooted you could cycle the power or reboot or a number of things and watch it happen since it does hardware KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) so the video feed doesn't die when the server does. You could remote-access bios or remote-in a boot disk.

Theres really not a whole lot short of a physical hardware failure ISAC couldn't do either on it's own or remotely...

I wouldn't say that's all too common from what i understand :P

Well it is a system on a chip, at least that's what you just described. I've seen that before, but I never said it was common though. The only place I've really seen it sold is integrated on supercomputer and mainframe mobos.

Well it's a PCI Card. Didn't know this kind of thing existed anywhere else. Doh!
