vending machine poll

In the 2001 trailer there was a vending machine that you could buy food from. It was a cool, interactive object in the game. Would you like to see it in the game when it's released? If so what sorts of food do you want to be able to get from it?

Might as well have all of that in some machines. There are those machines that have a rotating rack with all kinds of stuff, and then there are the candy and chip machines where the stuff just falls. Throw in one of the old "dropping coffee cup" machines just for fun, and how about the old cigarette machines where you have to pull the lever out.

This is very likely in the game, since George said that they where able to keep the gameplay code, when they moved over to the new engine and Greenmarine said in August 2002(that is after they started work on the new engine/restarted the project) that they had added alot of interactive systems since that vending machine.

I don't know. I put that option in to see if anyone would vote for it, and I wanted to have basically all the food types for a balanced- out poll.

That would be a great idea... In fact, i think Duke should be able to dig out a Gorman Freeman doll, and make a comment about HL2 when picking him up... They already did a joke along these lines in the latest Splinter Cell, but you could have a Sam Fisher figurine, and if you fail in your attempt to get it three times, an alarm goes off and a bunch of aliens teleport in to fight you.

Have the vending machine non-biased. For example, some people like Coke products; others like Pepsi. Some like cake; others like pie. And so on and so forth. Oh, there's one more you might want to add to that list. Some players (not me) are coffee or tea drinkers, so that might be another one to add.

Where would Duke get the money from though, besides his wallet? Couldn't he just kill the aliens, take their wallets and buy stuff with it? Or would you be using a smart card system where you can put money into the card then use it in the machine?

Another thing to add to make the game more realistic is that if he eats fatty foods, then he might slow down, because he'll gain weight and such. This may only last for a few seconds, because getting exercise loses weight. If he drinks 3 cans of cola (Be it Coke, Pepsi, or even root beer, because of the caffeine), then he'll be hyper. His aim might be off.

I don't think I want to see Duke gain weight. That effect was good in san andreas, but I wouldn't want in to be in DNF.

I think it would be cool if Duke had a money system where the game keeps track of how much you have. I remember that once someone asked George about this, and he said something like, "I don't think we would do that, unless we think it will help the gameplay." I'm not sure how he worded it, but that was pretty much what he said.

I think a vending machine would be cool. I'd like to see stuff like soft drinks and potato chips and hamburgers come from them. Maybe you could have special ammo vending machines, a la Alien Carnage, that give you certain types of ammo that you can't get anywhere else (or you could, but it'd be very hard to do so). You could get money both from aliens and from bank vaults. :P

As for health effects, I wouldn't want to see that. I want DNF to be arcadish, after all a huge masochistic man carrying huge guns and wearing almost no armor is pretty unrealistic if you ask me. Drinking cola and eating turkeys to gain health is okay, getting too hyper/too fat from drinking/eating too much is not.

You have to get the cokes in Manhattan Project by using a coke mackine. You won't actually see them laying around.

I think they should just use whatever realistic vending machines of today are. Most products should be packaged snacks and drink cans/bottles, but maybe you could get the others in an office of some kind.

It wouldn't be cool to buy a week-old-and-still-browning cheeseburger if you know what I mean, and those aliens don't seem like they want to leave anytime soon, so food could get kinda ugly. :P
