I expect virtually no one here will listen to this, because it's Opera, but I find some parts of this compelling. I'm listening to the samples (which are of good length) on Roger's website.

Ca Ira is an opera that's been in development for something like 13 years about the French Revolution It's not my usual cup of tea, but there's a few songs I've heard that sound good. The only reason I'm even considering it is that I love Pink Floyd, and I was also a fan of his solo work. Now liking those has NO bearing on this music, as it's an Opera, nothing like any of his existing material. But given I like the artist, I'll at least give it a looksee.

Problem is that I don't know if I want to buy it, because I'll only listen to it a few times. I'm curious if anyone else

I'd buy it if there was a chance this was actually a good Opera, but so far the clips have been rather underwhelming.

Somehow i actually expected this to be good enought to stand up decently to a real Opera, but i guess writing classical music it's just beyond the powers of rock artists, even somebody has good as Waters.

Well, I'm no opera fan, but I expected it to be considered weak by traditional opera folks. However, I except the rock fans of his that will crossover will probably find it fine.

I like some opera works, but most that are fast and quick paced. I dont know if that fits alot of operas. I also like Strings that do tributes to bands. Like The Tribute to Atreyu done by the Ya Baby! String Quartet. And I thought that was pretty good stuff, not all the time listening, but it would be really good to throw in the mix and add some flavor, good stuff.

BTW, is there a dvd for this thing ? Opera it's also a visual art after all, and this seems more like a threatrical musical then an Opera to boot...

It seems ok, I dont think I would buy it though.

Say Joe, have you ever heard the London stage version of Jesus Christ Superstar with Deep Purple's Ian Gillian as Jesus? That has some of the best rock vocal performance's I have ever heard, the singing and playing is just incredible.

There's a DVD on that, but I think it's a making of the CD. I don't think a formal performance has been staged yet - Roger's site talks about doing that shortly.

AOL Music is streaming the entire Opera.

Go there, and scroll to the end of the list of CD's, Ca Ira is there. You can listen to the entire thing.
