Does anyone here know what the version number was for the final version of wolf3d? Does anyone here know what the version number was for the final version of SOD?

v1.4 if memory serves correct. Loved that when it came out, no longer that annoying video corruption when running it on my Paradise vid card with 1 MB and WD 90C30 chipset. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Both Wolfenstein 3D and Spear ended with v1.4. Funny thing is so did Keen Galaxy & Aliens. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
One other thing. Wolf3D v1.2 and v1.1 both said v1.1. There's only one way to tell if it's v1.2. You know the secret elevator at the end of Episode 1 Level 1? Well, if you take the elevator, and it goes to level 2, it's v1.1. If it goes to Level 10, it's v1.2. That's the only difference. There was never a v1.3 released of Wolfenstein 3D because of the XXX thing.
And there were never any patches made for this, because it was done in the era before we started doing patches.
I tried to back create a patch for Wolfenstein about 2 years ago, but couldn't find registered versions of v1.1 & v1.2.

I have registered v1.1 somewhere http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif either way in v1.1 how DO you get to the secret level if the secret elevator is screwed? And no I dont mean with the goobers thing...

I think Wolf 3D is still a lot of fun. I really don't care how old the game is, as long as it's good.

You don't. That was the point of the v1.2 patch. In fact, that was the only thing changed from 1.1 to 1.2. It was a tiny map fix, that the version number change was forgotten about. That's why v1.2 says v1.1.
I actually pointed that out to Scott Miller before I started working here. I'm also the person that informed Apogee of the XXXWolf3D pretending to be v1.3 of Wolf (also before I started working here), which is why we never released a v1.3 - we didn't want any confusion.

i think that unlike other "first" games, wolf3d also set a very high standard, putting all 3d FPS on a very high level, Id practically owes it's existance to wolf3d, that's why they made the wolfenstein 3d tribute in their DOOM 2 (secret level 31)
i also loved the wolf level in ROTT.

Wolf3d is still a pretty good game (not as good as keen though) even if it does run too fast. I have a PIII 450, and everything moves so fast, it makes me kind of dizzy because the framerate is so high, (80-100 fps?), and you move so fast, sometimes too fast to move where you want to. Does anyone have the list of what the German guys in Wolf3d are saying? I'm no expert on German. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Wolf3d was the first FPS i ever played, followed by Half-Life, then I was so far past the point of no return that I didn't remember what it looked like. I had stumbled into FPS territory. I grabbed my MP5 and shot the hell out of him. Then, I relaized my true destiny... Being a Stealthy Sneaker...
Oh wait, this isn't the "WTF IS WRONG WITH STEALTHY SNEAKER 3?" thread, isn't it? Either way, Wolf3D was the first shooter I played and it got me hooked like a fishhook or the first sniff of cocaine... And no, I'm not on drugs. I just happen to like metaphors as more than a friend, like a hamburger and a hot dog getting hitched in the back of a limo made out of onion rings and chocolate... THERE I GO AGAIN! my point is I th ink Wolfenstien 3D is cool.!!!

Yeah, I really liked Wolf 3D quite a whole bunch, it's amongst the best classic games around. Of course, with the advent of the so called "Revival" called Return to Castle Wolfenstein, it sounds like that's the game of choice for me now. Telling you, that's how a game can become better ten years after the original. There's a lot more with this new Wolfenstein, and I'm telling you, there's no looking back now! Long live B.J. Blaskowicz! BTW, Spear of Destiny is every bit as good if not better, and that I've played quite a lot, too. I don't know, but those other two episodes to SoD appeared to be a little "Star War" looking, or I dunno... Anyone have any thoughts on Spear of Destiny as opposed to Wolf 3D?

I played Spear of Destiny before Wolfenstein 3D, and that's pretty much where my heart really lays. I remember my friend and I use to split up the controls. One would aim the other would shoot. Good times.
Damn, this thread is five years old; going on six! What stupid signatures I've got too. That takes me back.

I remember that I played the shareware version of Wolf3D and loved it so much that I begged my folks to buy me Spear of Destiny when I heard there was another game. Great times. The most recent time I played Wolf3D was with some mod a guy was making from the source code....I think it was with 3d acceleration or something...I don't remember AHHHHH!!!! Castle Wolfenstein, which, now, there's RtCW. Only the best of the Wolfenstein series. id Software and Nerve, and all the gang really made 10 years of Wolfenstein a blast from the past... It breaks my heart to see RtCW become so real, yet so much share its roots from which it began. It's waaaay too realistic in some cases, except for the levels with the zombies, that'll turn the game around. All games made based on Wolfenstein is equally as good as the next one. Heck, in RtCW, you can even kill Lady Soldiers, or something like that. You don't see that happen everyday... Wonder who came up with that idea?

I wonder where there are any Windows ports for Wolf 3D/SOD, for now, the only thing Windows-based that's Wolfenstein related that I got is RtCW: Platinum Edition. I loved Wolf 3D back in the day, boy, this and Blake Stone were on the same engine, and both proved to be just as good, better try finding a good Windows port for it soon, can't run DOS games on XP that easily, and DosBox will only cause me problems.

There are ports for this? Sweet, point me out to a link to the best one out there, then I'll see if I can fire up the old game. I'm looking through FilePlanet/PlanetWolfenstein, and they don't appear to have that listed. PW is mainly covering RtCW anyway, I have RtCW, and it is a wazillion times better technologywise, gives you more of a real life WWII soldier's experience, and the storyline is well laid out, but the spirit lives on in the original Wolf 3D for sure!
