I was wondering if there is anything special you need to do to be able to use a microphone in ROTT. My brother and I both have mics and it doesn't seem to work. The mics are plugged in and functional, what's up?

Also, is there a problem with installing Dark War in Windows 98? I recently got a new computer and wanted to install it since it was on my old one and after choosing to create the rott directory (or any game on the CD) it crashes. Any help would be appreciated. If you can help me please let me know by email.

I think that you have to also have soundblaster sound cards for this to work...I'm not positive about that though...

I just realized that the mics only work in Network play, not modem play. Still haven't figured out the other thing though.

The mics are only for network play, plus you need to hold F12, THEN you can yell the heck out of the other guy's speakers.

About installing the full version of ROTT on Win98....

I've had no problems for that... but it's probably because the disk is full, or you're specifying the wrong drive letter for your CD-ROM drive.

No, it's not anything like that. I'm pretty smart when it comes to computers so I've tried basically everything I can think of. It's not an error on my part but something is wrong with the CD or the compatibility with Win98 (which didn't seem to affect you).

I think you must have ROTT 1.4 for that to work its on there web page or on the dark war CD (The patch)

<<Sounds like incorrectly installed Sound card drivers - that shouldn't happen.>>

That's what I thought but the midi in Duke3d and just listening to midi in windows works fine. I dunno....weird.

Thanks, I downloaded the newer install program and it worked. Although the setup program crashes when it tests my soundblaster for midi (other sound is fine) but I'll live.

You must both have v1.3, and you both must be playing on a LAN. It doesn't work over modems.

Sounds like you have one of the old v1.2b ROTT CD's. They don't like compressed drives or Windows shells very much (remember, these are DOS games, they behave better in DOS).

Anyway, go to our download page, and get the ROTTCDI replacement install program (It's #8 on the list of ROTT downloads). It should work for you.

Cold boot your system (ie: Turn it off), and then when you start up, make sure ROTT is the first thing you run. See if it makes a difference.

Also, if you don't already have it, try v1.3.
