I've reached Xen and I'm stuck here. I'm trying to reach the cave entrance in the wall ahead but it's too far to jump. There don't seem to be any other entrances, I can't scale the cliff walls and I can't go back where I came from. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious to blow up, either. Does anyone know how to get through this area? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haven't played this, but have you tried interacting with that yellow glowing crystal yet? That seems pretty obvious to me.

I sort of remember that. Isn't it the part where you have to jump onto smaller, moving platforms? If so, look down below. Maybe you'll see.

I found the answer about 10 minutes later. There's a shaft entrance in the ground that was very hard to spot.
Two of the later puzzles were incredibly devious. Using the metal barrel to compete the detonator circuit was a great idea. The best one was having to drain the toxic area, re-arrange the barrels in a line and then refill the toxic area to float the barrels again, so you can walk across them to the other side. I finished the game a few minutes ago. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

God I hated Blue Shift.
*SPOILERS*
i mean, first off you're playing as barney, my personal favorite HL character, but the game is waaaaaaay to short. And, what's more, is it just ends... no end boss or anything. BAM! The end. I was kinda hoping for a big monster to come ut of nowhere and attack you as you escape with the fat scientist.
Ah well...
At oleast the begining was cool as hell.

The beginning was awesome but I don't mind its short. Barney has a totally different situation from Shepard and Freeman.

I loved the beginning. It's similar to Opposing Force, where you get to see parts of Black Mesa from a whole different perspective.
When the train let me (Barney) off in front of that locked door in the beginning, I had a big smile because I KNEW who was going to be on the next train that passed by. Sure enough, Gordon Freeman was on it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes, Half-Life is quite lengthy. I'm still stuck in the trip-wire room. I haven't a clue how to get out without setting off all the explosives.
Opposing Force is still the best (judging from how much HL I played, and Blue Shift) and I just loved being able to control my own squad.

There IS a way through. Hints follow:
Hint #1
<table><tr><th><font size="-1">Spoiler below:</font></th></tr><tr><td class="spoiler">You need to make your own path in some spots</td></tr></table>
Hint #2
<table><tr><th><font size="-1">Spoiler below:</font></th></tr><tr><td class="spoiler">You'll need to move or destroy an object to keep it from setting off the explosives</td></tr></table>

yes, when you're on an elevator, and the elevator stops, showing a view of scientists chased by vortigaunts, and then that train car crashing and flying upside down.
