If I can ever get the rights back to Keen, or if I can strike a deal

with id so I have creative control of him forever, then you'll see Keen again.
-Tom Hall

Do you know how many people out there are wanting you to do another

Commander Keen? On almost every Commander Keen message board that

I've visited, there have been messages asking about Commander Keen

with the Santa hat on. In 1992? I do believe that you are a few

years behind! Look:

If you played Keen 5, there was a screen that said something to the

effect of "Join us in December 1992 for the greatest Keen adventure

yet". There was a picture of Commander Keen smiling, with a Santa

Claus hat on. At the time, ID Software was intending to do a third

series of Commander Keen, tentatively entitled "Commander Keen: The

Universe is Toast". However, other projects came up (Wolfenstein 3D,

Spear of Destiny, and later, Doom). There are no plans now to do more

Keen. The main reason for this is that ID Software owns the rights to

Commander Keen, and any new project would have to be either done by

them directly (EXTREMELY unlikely), or at least approved by them. At

this time, there are no Keen games under development by either

Apogee, ID, or Ion Storm.

-Geoff Sims, owner of the best Commander Keen website

You are just past 6 YEARS late! I know, I know, you think Commander

Keen is too cute. So? If a 19 year old (Jack Deveraux) loved

Commander Keen and tried to make more episodes, isn't that enough

evidence? In Geoff Sims' guestbook, a parent was playing it, and

immiediately got addicted. My mom plays it, and I'm sure several

other moms do too. And if you aren't going to do "The Universe is

Toast", why not give ownership of Commander Keen to Tom Hall? He

would finish "The Universe is Toast", and would probably make some

other Commander Keen games, too. Commander Keen was THE BEST computer

game ever created, and there are thousands of people who want to see

more Commander Keen. I hope you will consider this message, and not

trash it like the last one I sent you.

Sincerely,

Jon Hinkle

It would appear tha Foob sent a letter to id Software, and somehow failed to clarify in a certain portion that he was quoting Geoff Sims of "The Ultimate Commander Keen Website," who was quoting a representative from id Software.

Foob has successfully confused everyone that has half a brain.

Yeah, along with those of us who have two halves! http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
I really don't think that the anagram helped support any point in the rest of your letter, btw... http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
But I agree wholeheartedly nevertheless... I doubt that id gets much revenue from Keen anymore, and they have no plans to do anything with him, so why are they clutching him by the nuts?

I don't like id much period(.). I wanted a Doom 3, asked if there was ever going to be one. They said the closest thing there was going to be was their upcoming game (I called in 1994) Quake. So.........

Foob told us what he sent in a letter to id Software about the future of Keen.

Is it just me, or are the fans way more enthusiastic about Keen than Carmack? Tom Hall said he'd do Keen 7, so did John Romero. So what's Carmack's problem? Why won't he give up the rights to Keen? Is he still making that much money from Keen? If he is, wouldn't that be an indicator that a sequel's in order?

I realize the above questions are loosely-founded, but I'm just getting them from what little knowledge I have of the situation.

(I think) The last time id put Keen in a game was in the super secret level in Doom 2. What the player had to do was kill about 4 Keens that had been hung. I think that id doesn't like Keen very much.

I think id just likes making people mad, taking a beloved character such as keen and killing him, or the dopefish in Quake (I don't have the registered Quake, but I heard he's there from http://www.dopfish.com ). If I remembered the UBB Code incorrectly this post'll look weird http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif. Oh well, id Software's crazy not wawnting to let someone make another Keen.

Heh heh, I remembered the code wrong, good thing you can edit your messages!

I think Id is only in the business for money. Face it, Keen 7 will never exist, not even if you spend years with riots for another Keen. It's something of the past. They will be making more I Love Lucy episodes before they make Keen 7!

I Love Lucy? That's really old..

Anyways, a small question for Foob:
How long did it take you to transform "eleventh ego link" to "Long live the Keen"?
And how, may I ask?
