You mean rigged. How do you figure? Don't you think that someone would've brought this up, before? Particularly in the Apogee FAQ . . .

They're not unfinishable. Hard, maybe, not not unfinishable.

There's only one level in the entire history of our product line that is not "100% finishable". That's Episode 2 Level 8 of Wolfenstein 3D. That's the "Aardwolf" level. You can't get 100% of the secrets in that level, it's not possible.

well, got the same problem here,
I rediscovered commander keen and crystal caves a month ago,
and those two levels (they are the same) are unfinishable.
it keeps saying there are more crystals to collect, but I'm sure I have token them all.
it goes about http://spikenexus.toxicsheep.com/pccw/pages/maps.php?map=e2l05

Wow, a 7 year old topic :).

Game Hint for Episode 2 Level 5

The trouble that you are having with Crystal Caves II level 5, on getting the gem directly above the Kilroy was here sign is very common.

The place that you need to jump from in order to get the gem is from the pipe that is just to the left of the gem. The method that one must use however takes precise timing. You must take a running start for the gem, and jump when you are just about to fall of the edge. If you jump at THE LAST moment, you will end up catching the gem with your foot.

What two levels are the same? CC2L05 (http://spikenexus.toxicsheep.com/pccw/pages/maps.php?map=e2l05) is different from CC3L07 (http://spikenexus.toxicsheep.com/pccw/pages/maps.php?map=e3l07)

I think Crystal Caves 2 level 7 (http://spikenexus.toxicsheep.com/pccw/pages/maps.php?map=e2l07) is not "100% finishable". I can't get the chest and the mushroom next to the whirlwind.

Holy crap this is old. I haven't played those games in YEARS

I've just played level 5 of Crystal Caves 2 and I've finished it. Do you want proof? I can make a video of me finishing that level if you want.

I'd like to see that. I love speedruns and such. Don't feel the need to break any world records. :)

Crystal Caves 2 level 5 is finishable:
Video at Google (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7872527497842448249).
Video at YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm9ql-59oCk).

Those two links don't seem to work, so here's a download link at RapidShare (http://rapidshare.de/files/28639053/CC2L05.avi.html).

What codec did you encode it with? I have KLM 1.55 with almost everything installed but I can't see any video.

Litude

It seems to be encoded with ZMBV which is the codec that DOSBox by default encodes it's movies with.

EDIT: Found a thread for ZMBV problems from DOSBox forum here (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=12133)

Holy crap I had to search the net for a long time to find the option to install ZMBV.

Well played. With a lot of route planning and skill, I could see a speedrun of CC being interesting. Too bad there isn't a "re-recording" version of DOSBox with frame advance and all the goodies they have for console emulators.

Well played. With a lot of route planning
A lot of route planning? No way. I just wanted to finish the level with 3 hearts left and by getting all the points.

I thought there also is a Paganitzu level that can't be finished 100%. Frenkel?

Frenkel

I forgot about that. I think Paganitzu episode 1 level 20 is not 100% finishable without using cheats.

You guys sure about that?

I don't know how to get all the diamonds without getting hit by the spiders.

The way I look at it is this.. Every game we release is tested for completion before being released. If it honestly wasn't completable it would have been picked up during testing, and corrected. I'd have to break out the game and figure it out, but I honestly don't believe it's unfinishable w/o cheating.

Unless it's some timing thing that's cropped up over the years due to newer computers, but I admit that's a reach.

Wow, you bumped a 7 year old topic. That's the biggest bump I have ever seen :o

Anyway, are you sure that you have them all? That's the only way, unless it's some sort of glitch

you can finish it just fine you just cant get every dimond although you cant realy count that cuz if you trap spiders you get extra dimonds so you can get more then 100% compleat on some levels also you can trap a spider with your body if your rilly qwick

The Hal's Kitchen (http://www.shikadi.net/keenwiki/Hal%27s_Kitchen) level in Keen 3 is also not 100% finishable. The level can be completed, but there are sections in this level that contain points, but are not accessible.

Wow, a 9 year old topic. :o

If indeed it is a problem with newer computers, I would give DOSBox a try.

the trouble with DOSBox is the overscan green border on gem completion doesn't show up unless you use certain DOSBox builds, and modify the dosbox.conf file.

It's discussed pretty heavily in these threads:
http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=12970
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9753

but I am not sure if the overscan border has been implemented in the current release yet. Avatar might know, or Qbix for that matter :)

wow dont we love the old threads I know cc ep 1 2 and 3 were done without cheating by me (many years ago) but come on you dont think apogee could get away with making a level unfinishable in a game that you pay for without them geting a lot of crap for it and having to put out a patch theres no way every one who ever got it just used cheats right??

There's still people that think they're the first in the world to find the Aardwolf message in Wolfenstein 3D, too. :)

But this forum is one I have never pruned old messages in. Because of the wealth of info about our old games, I never wanted to remove the old messages here.

ya thats one of the grand things about the apogee site its a small slice of the internet history (if only you kept the apogee chat logs from before there was a form that would be funny to read)
