Just click the link to the .xpi menu in Firefox and it'll popup with a Install menu.

Though you might have to add adm.alanwake.net to the allowed domains.

EDIT: You might have to just open the .xpi with Firefox itself. So Open with -> Firefox .. then install it that way.

Very cool now that I got it working and the bug has been fixed http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/thumbsup.gif

I've submitted it to the Mozilla Update site. So when it comes up you can install easily from there and keep it updated easily enough.

I get a "Not a valid install package" error when I try to run it from my hard drive, and it just shows a long text file if I try to run it from the web. Using Firefox 1.0.7.

Hmm that's weird. Try removing the extension and reinstalling it again.

I'm on 1.5 and it works fine but I did try it first on 1.0.7 and it worked.

Ruger

I can't remove it and reinstall it because it gives that error instead of installing it. I did try deleting it from my hard drive and downloading it again, but it still gives the same error when I try to install it. A shame really, as this looked like a pretty cool extension.

ADM
10-24-2005, 02:49 AM
Hmm that's weird. Can you try dragging it to the Firefox window? See if it opens that way?

If not you could wait until it gets on the Mozilla Updates site and see if it works that way.

Ruger

Still that damn error. Guess I'll have to wait for it to get on the Mozilla site.

ADM

I've just tested it on Firefox 1.0.6, 1.0.7 and 1.5 beta and they all work fine with it.

No idea why it isn't working on yours like that.

What operating system are you using?

I tired getting it from Mozilla Update and it says:

"The extension you requested is either incompatible with the application selected, or the version of it is no longer available on Mozilla Update."

I am using Firefox 1.0.7 on Windows XP computer.

It's not up on there yet, it's still saying Pending approval on there. Where did you see it?

EDIT: Ahh I see it comes up in the search over there. Anyway yeah it's not approved yet which is why it says that message.

I've provided the .xpi file in the first post.

Follow these instructions:

- Save the .xpi file to your desktop.
- Once it's download drag it to your firefox window.
- This should bring up a install window, just click install.
- Restart Firefox and the menu will appear at the top.

I clicked open->thefile.xpi->install
Then I restarted firefox and it was there http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
My version is 1.0.7 german btw...

Is this actually hardcoded, or are you picking up the structure from the software itself?

Reason I ask is if I make any future changes, will it blow this thing up?

However, i don't get what you mean by opening it 'with' firefox... I don't see how this is possible..!
Do i have to put it into a certain directory, or do i have to open it somehow..?

Well I asked it to update my extensions and it prompted me to install version 1.2 of this software. Then in installed an extension called "Tech Support Guy Forums Menu" which is just like your extension only for another forum. It has got a 3D Realms logo even, I think it is pretty strange.

Try uninstalling then reinstalling it again using the url in the first post.. then try updating and see if it does it again.

No utitilies at all.. the skinning for WinXP is done in a file called UXTheme.dll and theres a program that can crack that file so it can support third-party skins.. which I did that.

I tried adding the Home Page but it doesn't work due to the way it's managed through the login.php file.

I'm not sure what you mean by skins, but eventually I want to add little images next to each one similar to how I've got the 3DR logo in there.

With skins, i meant transparent background images, which fit to the varios boards... But i just checked how it works, and i found out that this isn't possible... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

Will there be 'side-bars' where you can access the other sections outside the forums..? (The mainsite stuff, like the 3DR store, or company info page etc)
This could be a optional feature...

You don't have to do this though... Since i think most people wouldn't make use of it anyways...

Btw, what else are you planning, other than maybe adding icons on each board..?!

ADM
11-15-2005, 11:33 AM
Ahh right.. yeah I might extend into the main site as well.

Once I've added the icons there isn't anything else the extension needs really.

I think its to prevent people stealing other peoples extensions..

Hmm not sure without looking too much into it, which I don't have much time to do at the moment. If ShadeEX can fix it then sweet, email it to me and I'll upload the fixed version.

Probably ideal to test out the extension and make sure it's working before I upload it so ShadeEX just send it to Micki! and Kennerado to test it out and if it works for them then send it to me.

Cheers guys.

Quick little addition guys.. a couple of extensions on the Addons site were having the same problem. They said to restart Firefox and try installing it again, supposedly it's a problem that occurs sometimes with the addons.mozilla.org server and is not a problem with the extension itself:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345505

So basically the addons are cached on the server itself so if you continuosly get the problem and you have restarted firefox then wait an hour and try again.

Ahh then its definatly not the extension..

Since I had a sneaking suspision that the files where curropt myself..

Also try not installing the file directly from addons.mozilla.org but instead save the file to disk and drag it into your open firefox window and see if that helps first..

I think i have an uncorrupt file laying around, i can send if this problem persists.. if ADMs and my suggestions dosn't work..

B) There has been a name change in one of the subforums from "Classic Apogee/3D Realms" to "Other Apogee/3D Realms Games".

Also, is this plugin compatible with Firefox 2? Saw this tonight

http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/06/extension-developers-prompted-to-upgrade-for-firefox-2/

It should to my knowledge already be future compatible, however I'll check it just to be on the safe side..

Ok addon just got approved so you all should have received the update if you previously had it installed.

ShadeEX

Just a little update..

ADM is adding me as author to the official 3DR NavMenu firefox plugin page, so I can upload new updates too..

That should speed things up a bit, when I may need to make updates in the future..

Micki!
06-22-2007, 04:20 AM
Could one of you link the page to the update then..?
I don't have it installed on Vista, so there'll be no automatic update for me :o

Nevermind, used original link on first page :)

ADM
06-22-2007, 06:20 AM
Yeah the 'original' link is always the current link, that's why the first post is layed out like that so people can always get the latest version.

Micki!

May i request an update with Gen Messages in it..? :o

OK, after looking at this, there's some changes that must be made to the next version:

1) Remove Duke Movie Forum.
2) Add back Gen Msgs.
3) Icon is WAY TOO LARGE. Make it smaller. I mean honestly...

http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/6422/extensionsik5.png

Suggestion:

It'd be nice if you can break down categories like they are here - right now the groups are all lumped together. Prey, then the Prey subcategories...

There's more top level categories than the four listed in the plugin here.

ShadeEX
07-12-2007, 09:31 AM
What theme are you using Joe, bacause in the default Firefox 2.0 theme the 3DR icon is not that large..

I'll ubdate it ASAP..

EDIT:

Im working on that right now.. ^^

Joe Siegler

I use "Littlefox", because I want everything as small as possible in terms of using screen real estate. It's also the only icon for the plugins I have (about 15 of them) that does that.

ShadeEX
07-12-2007, 10:39 AM
Well I'll minimize it and give you a Pre-release, so you can check if its fixed..

I'm still figuring out how break down the catagories more..

How about this see attached pic Joe..

For every forum that has a subforum like Prey, I make it like shown in the pic..

Joe Siegler

I like the submenu thing like that. I do think it should properly follow the structure that the forums really have.

The "top level" categories are:

1) 3D Realms Topics
2) General Gaming Topics
3) General Topics
4) Archives

Then follow the structure from there.

ShadeEX

Okay I'll doo it like that, I'll send you an example. If you like it I'll upload it officially..

however I'm not posting the changlelog until it's offcially released.. Just in case I need to change something, last second..

Official changelog:

-Re-added link to General Messages.

I noticed the Prey Forums Merged sticky..

Read It Here (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29388)

So I will update the extention to reflect those changes

what will change:

* Tech Help

Will all be removed since they have been merged with the main Prey forum..

That is all..

EDIT:
The update has been submitted and is pending review..
The update is reviewed and is approved. So you should all be able to update to the latest version now!!

Again I ask people to please review the extention if you like it, If you haven't done so already..

Well I had hopes of eventually having the news from the front site be shown through the plugin as well through a mini RSS reader inbuilt but never had time to do that.

Tested out the update and it all works fine but I think "Find Blogs" should be "Search Blogs".

To bad I don't have a clue on how to code that.

Yeah I can change Find Blogs to Search Blogs, they haven't even approved the new version yet..

It's live on Mozilla now.. :)

So I removed the attached download, since you can just get it from Mozilla now..

I also removed the older Zip file of version 1.2.2 since it's outdated and not needed..

You can download version 1.2.4 from the 3DR Navmenu addon page on Mozilla found here: (And while your at it you could also write a review ;))

Got it now. If I may make a suggestion, having the two sections for general gaming (Other Gaming and Max Payne) with their own sub-folders probably isn't necessary, and in fact is sort of irritating, as I have to wait an extra half a second for that third branch to open. Just put them all in line in the second branch like it used to be.

No use in embedding RSS reader to that plugin. It doesn't have to do everything, and most people that user RSS feeds have other plugins for that with more advanced features. All in all, I see that as a wasted effort.
