Games CDs

How come some of Apogee's newer games require the CD to be in the disc drive. I hate that.

It's for copy protection, there's a huge file on the CD and then (I think) the game checks the drive for that file and that the checksum is correct. If that hust 500 or so MB file isn't there, you could be using a pirated version (which as we all know, is illegal). In short, they require the CD to cut down on illegal copying.
