I just saw this yesterday for the first time. Some of the secrets in the game I hadn't seen - but went and checked this out after putting together the walkthrough earlier this week.
This was absolutely hysterical. images/icons/smile.gif If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here (http://www.maxpayne.com/walkthrough/secret1.html).
When i first saw this topic: "I had declared a war against rats", i first thought that: "umm, there is rat problem in 3DR office and Joe is totally fed up with them" images/icons/grin.gif
Yes, my mod is going to capitalize on those animations! Instead of human enemies.. it'll be "attack of the giant rodents!" then I'll commit myselft to making a reference to every "giant-sized-animal" type of B movie there is...
It'll have beastie boys music in the back ground because of their cover for one of their singles.. which I forget the name of ...

Yah, the first time I viewed a gun-toting rat die in bullet time, I had to walk away from the monitor because my sides were hurting from laughing so hard.

One other thing about jokes like this in Max Payne.. When people who complain about teh game being too short complain, I'd wager most of them didn't spend any time looking for secrets and jokes like this - they just whizzed through the game.
I didn't even know this was here, and I had played the game (and this level in particular) a TON of times.

people who complain that the game is short are incompetent, as there are many more entertaining skill levels that could be tried as well
oh, and my favorite part is where the one guy goes "okay, give me the detenator" and the other goes "what?" and then he goes "THE DETENATOR!" and the other goes "i thought you had it" or something, then he blows his head off and starts whistleing like he didnt do anything

Damn! The only secret I found was the room in the tutorial... duh images/icons/grin.gif
First time was fast. Sure, lots of painkillers, wasted ammo, but was focused on the job - I needed to find the murderes images/icons/grin.gif Now I'm almost finishing Hard Boiled, but I am not quite glad cause I used 2 or 3 painkillers in the beginning levels for some tough baddies. Being more careful with wounds and ammo makes the game a bit longer.

*grin* ...and the secret continues even further:
After activating the Rat Wars secret in the subway, shoot the second lamp on right when entering the room with the rats. The lamp will fall down and all six rats will re-group into 3 rat teams and start fighting against each other images/icons/wink.gif
