I have an unusual problem: My synth/sequencer has a built in floppy drive which I just replaced because it was making all kinds of strange noises, it's a 5 year old drive. Anyway I put a new one in, and it won't read many of the disks as they were never formatted. The old drive read & wrote to them no problem, but the new one won't. So I have to use my comp to copy the files to my drive & then I can put them on new floppies. A couple of disks however, give me the "unformatted disk" error. I know there is data on them as it was saved with the old Roland xp60 drive. Is there any way to retrieve the data from floppies the system says are unformatted? I've tried a couple of data recovery progs with no luck. I know I may be hooped here, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks guys http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Oh, and I did try using the old drive, but that doesn't work now either.

Have you tried the Roland site - do they have any form of proprietary file system? There must be some software tools out there to recover the info - if they have got stuff fot flash cards that works, there must be something out there.
http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/ is one example with a free trial - don't know whether or not it's crippled in any way though.

Join up at http://www.fantomized.info or http://www.rolandclan.info - Artemio has a great resource for Roland instrument users and you're bound to find some help there. Although lately there seem to be some database problems at Fantomized... at the least you could contact Artemiy he's very helpful.
