I just beat the Sega Genesis version of Mickey Mania on my Xbox.
I must say it was pretty difficult, but extremly fun.
I had a harder and better time beating it than half my Xbox, PC, or PS2 games.

I almost forgot how fun games used to be,
and how well designed they were.
I know it's a Disney game, but it's very high in quality. (unlike modern Disney games, and half the other new games out)

This game brought back a lot of memories,
and really got me thinking how much new games lack gameplay. I know Mickey Mania isn't the best example,
but it's still funner to me than Halo 2 on singleplayer and all those.
Don't get me wrong, Halo's a pretty good game (mostly for the multiplayer),
but just isn't as FUN.

Gaming to me has become more like a responsibility than something I can relax and enjoy.
It's like I HAVE to beat new games because something is forcing me to, even though I'm not having a good time.

Maybe it's the simplicity that makes it fun?
I guess it's true, "they don't make them like they used to".

Also FPS genre overall is very restrictive. In long run it will get boring to point-and-click various enemies on your screen. Since in the end, FPS games are just point-and-click. People have already played them so much, that the gameplay it self isn't as rewarding or fresh.

I must say I waited Halo2 very long, and liked it very much too, but I never finished the singleplayer. I guess I agree with you that it sort of feels like I "have to" finish this level, instead of "I want to see whats more behind the next corner".

But also we should not think that we ever had good-ol-days. Infact, most of the Genesis (Or MegaDrive as it's called in Europe) games I've played were as awful as most of the games released on modern gaming platforms. Same with NES and all the other consoles. We just have habit of remembering only the rare gems that were crafted with care.

But then again, I haven't still seen as amazing game as Super Mario 3. All the different levels and the unbelievable imagination behind it all. Could you imagine game with such meaning be released these days?

DNF? Hope so.
