Sweet. I hated the undergrounds but this one looks better with daytime racing and less urbany screenshots, though still way too urban for my liking.
And using a soundtrack instead of original interactive music is so stupid, stupid, stupid etc.

Best NFS for me is Porsche followed by High Stakes..(thank god hot puirsuit mode is back)
Hated U:2(hated hot pursuit 2 even more),hope this one will be better than the highly comercial underground's.
From what i read the controle of the car is not that great.. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I'll download the demo tonight ( 30kb/s at night and 13kb/s day http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif )
If someone played it,plz give us a few hints for the gameplay and everything.

I think the problem with EA's direction of the series might be that they rely heavily on statistics, aiming for the highest sales possible - which is a terrible idea, let me explain: If you want sales your sight isn't set on making a great game, you just hit up what's guarranteed to be the most accepted. If you aim to make the best possible game you can then you obviously have to turn your back on what's currently popular because what's uniquely coming from your mind obviously can't have been around before to be popular. However when you do make a great game according to what you think would be great the sales follow and that sparks a ton of copycats.
Well EA has become the copycat, going "underground" with the fast & furious style and "hip" music which has proved to make some money, no matter how retarded it was - and the people paying for that entertainment still know that it's retarded, but they'll take it anyways.
.......... Crap. Now I've forgot where I was going with this, but it was good. Well I'm cutting this post off here, night everybody! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

"For all the NFS fans here" eh? I'm a big Need For Speed fan, but not Underground and on. NFS Hot Pursuit 2 was perfect (on ps2, like I said they screwed up all other versions), but then they go and rip off Midnight Club ( http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif Great series). NFSU2 was so close to Midnight Club 2 that you could basicly call it a "clone". EA piss me off cause they haven't made another Road Rash. If they used the engine from NFSHP2 (a few years ago), it would've been perfect, but nooo. That surely wouldn't make money. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

true! Those textures are terrible. Especially for a next gen game. Probably just cause it's a demo. The demo of Hitman 2 had really low res textures, and the full game looked a shitload better. Demos are always dumbed down.

the graphics do leave alot to be desired, but they are decent enough. most of the time i'm doing 125+ and when your going that fast you can't really tell with all the motion blur going on anyway. I'd say the graphics are pretty much the same as underground 2, but the gameplay looks to be much more entertaining.

yeah, EA have a nasty habbit of shitting on the fans of their series:
Madden. The genesis ones were great, but ever since Madden 2000, they ruined the gameplay, and every year the lazy bastards barely change the game at all, or add a useless feature.
Road Rash. Where the hell is Road Rash 7? Road Rash has unique gameplay that no other company has tried to emulate (at least on motorcycles), except the great looking (gameplay wise) Jacked, which was cancelled. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Jacked was going to let you steal the other characters' bikes, something I always wanted to do in Road Rash. It was even being made by former Road Rash team members.
Desert Strike series. I bet some guy at EA said "Hey, this series does good, but lets move on. I can't focus on this style of game any more due to my ADD!" ( http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif )
Need for Speed. WTF?! I'm not a wanna be, and there is already Midnight Club (which is great)
I swear EA have ADD. They do one series for a while, and then move on, or completely change the game. EA alienated their fans, and became Nazis.

What surprises me about this game is that it runs on a 32Meg card. Path of Neo won't run on anything less than 128MB of VRam.

This demo is really good. I'm looking forward to getting the full game. The music sucks aside from the chase music which is decent apart from sounding a little standard and monotonous - but it's the first time they've had interactive music in the game since NFS3, isn't it? Well kudos for that.
Also, this makes me wonder what they'll do next with NFS10. U and U2 aren't anybody's favorite NFS from the looks of things, and all needforspeed forums have had a ton of "ricers suck" and "street racing sucks" threads since those two, so I don't think they'll be going back there any time soon. In this game we've got exotics, less urban territory, daytime racing, hot pursuit and a little bit of interactive music. It all seems so promising.

I'm a fan of all the recent NFS games anyway, including the Underground series, and this seems to take the best bits from both sets of game.
I love how they've also included the Burnout-style bullet-time feature called the Speedbreaker. If you spot a shortcut at the last minute and you have some time left on your Speedbreaker bar, you can slow time down to make the move possible.
Now, I just need to decide whether to get this for my PC or my XBOX. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Example I can mock Smokey and Bandit by driving under semi and stupid cops drive pass. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also I like the new scenery, this woodland city feels much nicer than Underground 2's harbour city.
And what comes to the cars, well, Corvette C6, Mustang, GTO, Viper, Crown Victoria and in Black Edition 60's SS Camaro. Not bad and couple of the euroboxes and riceburners are pretty. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is probably the best Arcade Racer I have played yet. It is like they stole my dreams about what I wanted when I played the two hot persuit nfs games. Tons of cops, go where ever i want, super cool and detailed conversations on the police radio and a bunch more cool stuff.
Except for low res textures the game looks amazing. I also love the way the cars feel especialy the viper, spent several hours just doing that chalange. Crashed 89 police cars just now but got busted in the end http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Can anyone confirm if the full version is any good, if the ads have been toned down, or if cars can actually take damage and keep it? I heard the characters were as lame as the previous ones, which isn't good. If there's too much 'gangsta' talk then..that's bad.
Delicieuxz
11-17-2005, 02:55 AM
The characters are so lame you can't hate them instead you have to laugh at them. They've gone beyond cheesy into creating their unique form of fantasy nerd. You wouldn't mind if the story wasn't there, in fact you might prefer it.
The game's ok if you aren't looking for a racer. Upgrades count for next to nothing. I raced with a VW gold, hardly modified, and won pretty easy nonstop even though the opponents were getting increasingly better cars. Then I got a Supra and heavily upgraded, but it made zero difference in the races. The opponents all stayed right on my tail or right beside me, which is exactly where they were before. Like I said, this isn't a racer, catch up is set to 800%. This is a pretend racer.
I think a huge amount of the game world is actually in the demo. Over 1/3 of the whole map is in the demo - and it pretty much all looks the same, so it gets old fast.
This seems kind of like a watered down hybrid of Underground & Hot Pursuit together. The tuning isn't as required and the police chases are one dimentional. So all in all I really don't think there's much to get in depth with in this game, it's just something to play a bit casually around with. The incentive to get better cars isn't there for me because the game functions entirely on catch up, not your cars stats.

Really? My opinion is the opposite, really.
NFSU2 is the second worst racing game I've ever played, the lead spot going to Big Rigs.
But Most Wanted is definently one of my favourites. I dunno why I like it so much more.
I just downloaded the demo, and only played it for about a half hour, and I think I will definately pick this one up.
I only got to play it with my keyboard, as my wheel is tucked away somewhere; i didnt get to get a full feeling of the gameplay, but I had a blast playing it. I'll have to hook up my wheel later this week and give it a go.
I'm going to have to agree with Travis here, I can already tell this will be one of my favorite NFS games.
Even on my thinkpad, which is definately NOT made for gaming, (P-M 1.6, 7200 mobile radeon (underclocked), 768Meg ram) framerates were smoth and there were no slowdowns. Obviously, I just set it at the minimum settings, it runs at little higher than minimum settings smoothly, but there is an ocasional slowdown. I was actually impressed that it ran as well as it did.

I like it as well, I know a lot of people are gonna bash me for even mentioning this, but I think it looks retro. Like what Ford did with their 05 Mustang, EA, when they were actually worth a damn made a wonderful game about racing exotic sports cars very fast down leaf stricken roads, fall if you will.
I think this is their homage to their own game. Blending the old with the new.

My friend bought over his copy of NFSMW to try it on my PC. I had him bring his old FX5200 card since my Ti 4200 card fan is not functioning. The game put every graphic setting to low running on 640 by 480. Okay, yeah it looked crappy without FSAA and all those thingmajings. However, one thing that really distured me is how much bloom effect this game uses. Granted it's not as bad as Path of Neo, it still too bright. Imagine Sands of Time twice the bloom effects. Ugh...and on top of that FX5200 can't keep a consistent framerate. Still wonder if Ti4200 will perform the same.
By the way, my friend said that his in-game graphics looks almost like the ones in the FMVcs with his GeForce 6600 GT OC. Can anyone confirm this?
