Does EDF stand for Earth Defence Force or something?

Yes. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
2.0 - What is the story behind DNF?
As General Graves informs us in the E3 2001 video, the EDF - Earth Defense Force - has been overpowered by a group of aliens, who we heavily suspect have been called to earth by Dr. Proton - the cyborg from the original Duke Nukem.

What about the EDF in Quake Wars. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

Well if that question has been answered, lets ask another. Is the story remaining the same, and how big of a role does EDF play in DNF?

I think the main story is based around EDF, Duke most likely being apart of it.

HELL NO!!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
That would ruin the whole concept of 'Duke games'...

Earth Defence Force again.
I know. That's why I'm wondering if anything in the 'legal aspects' will occur. Are they both un-trademarked?

Yes and VERY probably un-trademarkable.

Who was the first to use it in games? DN3D mentioned the EDF in its expansion but it's very possible that some other game may have used it first. There's at least one, a SNES game called Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force.

The EDF was mentioned in the regular 3 episode version of Duke3D... On EVERY security video monitor...
And in the space levels (Lunar apocalypse)

Well I assume the SWAT dudes that were mentioned in that picture the shack guy got when George went nuts were the EDF.
Or SWAT dudes...either way...

Yeah and what makes you think that?

Why wouldn't he be? Duke's like a mercenary for the EDF obviously. Doing a mission with them to save the world.

What are you on? Duke worked for the CIA in the first game.
Here's how I see it:
Duke doesn't want alien bastards messing up his planet. He's proven himself as a crack agent, what with his destruction of Dr. Proton and the Rigelatins, and then his single-handed rescue of Earth.
The EDF keeps Duke on their payroll in case things get out of their hands. Duke gets to R&R whenever there aren't alien bastards destroying everything. When there ARE alien bastards destryoing everything, he gets to blow them away, then collects a nice, big, fat paycheck.
Also, Duke hates it when aliens mess with a) his bike b) his babes and c) his planet.

Don't you mean his ride (i.e. everything he moves in, car/spaceship/bike/..., and not his bike. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

True, but I bet he'd get more pissed off about his bike then some spaceship he hijacked. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hhg.gif

Well, that all depends on what his sentimental feelings about that bike are. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
And how cool the spaceship is of course. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

EDF has equated to Earth Defense Force for so long in so many places it's not even funny. I still have my Super EDF cartridge http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif for SNES.

Well, the good thing about EDF is that it stands for the entire earth and not just on country, which makes it sell better globally. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif (in theory anyway).
And that's how most of the games should be made IMO, namely neutral. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So it was assumed in 3d that he worked for the CIA, and that he will be working for them in dnf?
