View Full Version : Question about a Keen 5 level

For those of you that own Keen5:
I just got CK5 last night and got to the last level this evening. Anyway I don't know what to do. I found the Shikadi Master and shot at him 100's of times. This didn't do anything. I also noticed that after you get all the keys you open all four doors and come to find a machine that has a round glass ball in the center with electric stuff inside. What should I do? I tried shooting at that and didn't work.

In the Hints file (GG-Hint.exe) it says you must find someone (or something) that can destroy the QED. Hint: It's something that blows (blows up, that is http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif )

MooKeen, I swear to all that is Good and Holy that you are the most clueless person on these boards. He's talking about Keen V: The Armageddon Machine, not Keen Dreams.

I looked everywhere and didn't find anything that was supposed to blow up the machine in Keen5. I don't have GG-Hint.exe. Why not?

There's a whole roomful of those Shikadi mines down a long passageway. Go over there, and get them to follow you. You have to lure one of them close to the QED, and as soon as you hear it getting ready to blow, get out of the way! As long as the shrapnel hits the QED before it hits you, that'll do it.

If you previously found the secret level (the exit is in the Gravitational Damping Hub) and monkeyed with something near the end of it, you'll get a cool alternate ending. The hint for finding the secret exit: "Look down and translate"

I have the full version of "Goodbye, Galaxy" which has Keen 4 and 5, and the help file covers both of them. If you bought them separately, you may not have gotten anything like this.

Where did you get Keen 5 from? If you got it from us, then it was on the disk. You didn't download Keen 5, did you? That's not legal. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks to Scotty I figured out how to beat the last level. I never would have thought of it. I had to die so I could get the mines becuase they had already exploded in the other area. Thanks again Scotty.

To Joe3DR: What's up with Bobby Prince these days. I thought you might know since you work at a 3d game company.

Well, yeah, but the person was talking about "discs", so I just assumed it was an order from us. I know the files available from DR, I made them for DR. Discs wouldn't apply to the DR stuff.

I see. One question. Joe, did you make the installation programs for the DR versions ? Just curious. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Yes - why?

Yeah, looking back, I jumped the gun. The gg-hint.exe file is available on the floppy disk version we used to sell (which has been replaced recently with a CD-ROM). If it was bought a LONG time ago (pre 1994), then it didn't have this file, it had the original printed "hint sheet" we used to give out back then.

Well, I just wanted to know who to blame.

Apart from the .SHR / .EXE problem (easily solved), some of those install programs either hanged with PC or rebooted it.

I'm not a complete idiot, so I was able to extract the necessary files from the .SHR files, but it still kind of bugs me.

And before passing this message on to Bryan, I've already contacted him.

So to answer some other members questions, asked months ago, I guess Joe is evil. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

What? So, after all this fnord business (I swear I didn't mean to initiate that discussion), it turns out that "Joe3DR is evil?!?"

Hunh. Who'da' thunk it?

I just called Apogee and payed $95.00 for all of the keens. Every day after school and was dissapointed: No Keen! Then, one say I saw a large grey package with my name on it. I opened it and out came... A pack of CDs. AWWW CRAPP! Another few weeks passed. Finnaly it arrived! I took it in and installed it. I played for about 5 hrs. everyday after school. Back then I was about 6-7. I first saw Commander Keen, when it came packaged with a JoyStick (Gravis). I loved the shareware version, so for my Birthday I got it!

He was living with my grandparents at the time with a wife and my cousin. Later he went up to St. Louis and bought a Gravis Joystick. It also had Commander Keen 4. It was me and my cousin's favorite game. I spent a lot of time over there. We still play it alot. Oh gosh what memories this brings back. Well now I have a computer of my own ,Over a year now, and have all the Keens. Well gotta go. We've got a big storm headed our way in Missouri. Hey did you guys here about the big tornado that hit Oklahoma?

Oh...you could say that...I live in Oklahoma City!!! http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif

More than two thousand houses in the OKC area were destroyed. There were actually dozens of tornadoes in the span of about three hours. The largest one got up to a mile wide.

Still got my original Gravis Analog Pro instalattion disk, with complementary Keen 4 game. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

'twas a pretty sweet deal, an Analog Pro + Tie Fighter + Defender of the Empire add-on for about $30. Life certainly was sweet in those days. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

It's a good thing you survived intact Warhammer.

Hopefully Loser survived intact, since he's in Oklahoma too.

I still swear by the Illuminati/Freemasonry theory concerning the good(?) Mr. Siegler. Perhaps that's why he encouraged us to raise our Dopefish obsessions to a cult-like level? http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
