I find it hard at times to follow Max Payne 2's story fully, and as a result Im still a little unsure as to what role the inner circle played in the game, and why Mona was working for Woden.
Does anyone have a details plot summary of the game that pretty much covers everything?

played trough it 3 times and the story still is all clear for me btw i thought mona worked for Vlad
as far as the inner circle is involved
near the end with a conversation between macx and woden when he reveales vlad is guilty for al things he says we refused to fight mob wars, thats why inner circle is involved , and why vlad killed m

Ummm. Heh, heh.
No.
Mona works for Woden. She had worked for Nicole Horne. I doubt if Vlad could afford her or had enough powerful contacts to get her.
The Inner Circle was involved since MP1, when Nicole Horne, a former member of the Circle, kept going on with the expirement of Valkyr. After a while the rest of the Circle condemned her for it and kicked her out.
Then the Inner Circle (read: Woden) tried to kill Max. Max blackmailed Woden into helping him, and made him clear his name.
Vlad joined the Circle (after MP1, before MP2), and then realized what idiots they were, since they (read: Woden) were treating him like some lap dog instead of an equal. He disbanded, and tried to kill them (succeding for most of the way. ) His hits were the dead senator Winterson investigated, the other dead senator, and then Woden eventually.
Mona was kinda like Vlad in that they both went semi-AWOL.
Anything not clear?

I don't believe that was ever clearly stated.
Assumedly, if Max could blackmail Woden once, he could do it again. If he got rid of Max, there goes that problem. No more blackmail.

I really didn't like how they changed Vlad from being a basically good russian mobster to a bloodthirsty, vengeful psycho.

No no no... all he needed was the love of a good woman...
she left him for Gognitti, though... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
