In my opinion the one genre that has been greatly underappreciated is First Person RPGs..
Ever since the original System Shock I have fell in love with these titles, they give you the taste of in-your-face immersion while offering more than just "shoot everything that moves".
Titles such as Deus Ex (the second one doesn't even count), System Shock 2, Vampire TM: Bloodlines and even Boiling Point: Road To Hell are perfect examples of my favorite types of games. (I also like Daggerfall, Morrowind, etc.. however it's not my preferred setting)
These games provide great stories, superb atmosphere and awesome gunplay while at the same time giving the player the ability to choose certain skills and attributes that create a unique game experience (and also greatly extend replayability).
I seriously cannot wait for BioShock, Hellgate: London, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (even if I have my doubts about this now), and Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth (however I heard rumors they skipped the RPG elements on this one).
Of course I know Oblivion is coming out as well, however nothing grabs me more than modern/semi-futuristic, post-apocalyptic and sci-fi settings. (If anyone knows any other FPS/RPG hybrids like these coming out, or if there are already ones released I may not know about please post them)
So what types of games do you want to see more of?

Open ended 3rd-person ala Hitman http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif
Couple that with dynamic environment and AI (i.e. AI would be located in different spots each time you play a mission) and you have a game to play for the rest of your liiiiiiiiiiiiife.
Oblivions? Gothic 3? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm now waiting for Omikron 2 which entered pre-production some time ago. Details are scarce at the moment, but if it's going to be anything like it's predecessor...I'll be one very happy virtual pigeon! \o/

More Thief. \o
I am replaying part 3 right now.
I wouldn't mind a "true" sequel to Deus Ex 2, as well.
However, just like the Matrix, they should have just stopped after the first one. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif I think the stories of each were a good example of how continuing it makes the impact of the original one not as climactic(sp?) in the next iteration.
Also, it doesn't hurt to have some good RTS games. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'd like to see more games in the same genre as prince of persia (I don't mean same setting, but same gameplay: action/adventure, with platforming etc http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) anyone have any recommendations?
also, is this thread about genres you want to see more games of, or also series you want to get more of? because I already see people here asking for a sequel they want.

I don't like the combat in FPS/RPG hybryds, most of the time it's just standing there while shooting until the enemy that runs in a straight line towards you goes down (my main complaint about system shock 2).
Yes, I know I like some games which fit this description, but I either don't like the combat in these games as well, or in other games which fit this description it's just different for some reason.

Turn based games.
Not just turn based strategies, but turn based rpgs (fallout, anachronox), too. Hell, somebody should even make a commercial turn based fps.

A new game like Evil Genius and Dungeon Keeper would be fantastic. Or(even though I know it's unlikely, but not impossible) a sequel to Evil Genous which expanded the concept into a more complete Evil Genius Sim.

Flight Simulators.
The Flight Simulator 2K4 community is incredibly active, productive and talented. But I'd like to see more commercial offerings and competition pushing the genre forward, especially in regards to online flying.

A sequel to Rune. That game was awesome.
Quake 4 needs an expansion pack STAT.
The classic doom guys need to port Doom 2 already. I don't care about any enhancements, just throw in the bsp trees with ambient lighting, and I'm good to go.
Another mario 64. Just more levels and some new moves, that's all I want. (Like getting rid of the leg sweep...)
A MMOG that's an FPS, but isn't Planetside.
Oh yeah, any FPS with configurable settings, where modifying the entire way the game plays is a matter of adjusting sliders... So that way I could play Doom 3 with ambient lighting, or HL2 with weapons that work.

Get the Legacy of Kain series. You'll like it, First few Tomb Raider games were also very good so you might try them as well if you haven't played them yet.

I'd really like for more point'n click adventures to be made.. preferrably in 2D as that is easier to navigate and they can have even more detailed backgrounds then.

I'll look into a demo of some Legacy of Kain games if they exist (or else watch a few trailers http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif).
I indeed plan to look into the first 2 or 3 tomb raider games.

I'm 2D adventure junkie!! You heard of Martin Mystere 2D adventure that came out few months ago? If you can forgive it few bugs, it's excellent game with the soul of old games...

First of all: I want the return of adventure games......these "meh" adventures are fine, but we need MORE and we need some GOTY worthy titles damnit.
Second: I want a game/rpg to top Ultima VII in terms of interaction and expanse. I'm sick of dead rpg games that bore you after a few hours and make you do meaningless quests with airhead npcs. That, and it seems to me that people only care about stats....which is the last thing I care about in an rpg.

I'll do anything just to see good oldschool rpg with great story. I want new Planescape Torment....or Baldurs'gate 3...ah..nostalgia is killing me...

It's a total pipedream that seems to have no chance of ever happening these days.... but sidescrollers coming back into the mainstream.
All the old Apogee sidescrolling platform games are still some of my favorite gaming experiences of all time and I still replay them today, and as much as I got into first person shooters when they first started arriving I've still always missed the sidescrollers since then. Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project was a total godsend to me, heh. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dopefish.gif

Yeah I know man, I was desperately hoping all the other old Apogee platformers would get some sorta revival in the same style as DN:MP.
Keen, Bio-Menace, Crystal Caves, Hocus Pocus, and even then there's other non- Apogee greats from Jazz Jackrabbit to Clyde's Revenge/Adventure...... I was a total sidescrolling obsessive in the early 90's. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So what types of games do you want to see more of?
Sandbox games! Basically the the Morrowind/STALKER type. Only I'd like them to have even more sand and a bigger box. Medieval and post-apocalyptic are my favorite settings.
I'm really looking forward to Will Wright's Spore for instance, which is in a different genre altogether but very sandbox-ey.

Well, I've had adventure games on the brain lately. I think a really good adventure game is doable and could energize the genre. But, as I said in another post, they have to get rid of those static, lifeless environments and add some action to the story.
You can have non-combat action. If I had the money and resources, I'd make a private detective adventure game. And not only would you have to do the typical find clues, problem solve, etc. But you'd have to follow folks and use stealth, maybe even evade mysterious people. I could easily see stealth and driving components working nicely into the idea.
But if I look at exisiting games.
I'd love to see another Carmageddon game. I know one was in the works, but I haven't heard anything lately. I'd like Thief 4 as well. I liked some of the ideas in Thief 3,.

I want to see more GTA like games that DON'T suck. So far, the only one that looks to give GTA a run for it's money is Saint's Row. All the other failed horribly.
also, I want more FPS on consoles. There are not enough good ones. Also, I don't like it when first person RPG's are marketed as FPS (like the second Deus Ex. I f***ing HATE that game).
I could also do with more good 3D brawlers. The Warriors really showed how it should be done.
Another thing I'd like is more games with 2d views, but 3D graphics. It worked well with the latest MK, and Contra Shattered Soldier. I wish Midway would remake Smash TV like that.

Bittercold....you might want to go over to the Runegame.com forums to read Tgerr of Human Head Studios message (also in the site's "Recent News"). Another Rune 2 is what they want to make but it's getting a publisher lined up to back them.
Of course, Human Head Studios have their hands full making "Prey" at the moment. But they have always maintained wanting to making a sequal.
But as you play the game, I am sure you already know this.

Bulk of the wish lists in this thread contain sequels.
At the same time any pet-peeves thread gets filled with cries for more original titles and less sequels.
I'm sure someone can put a good spin to the aforementioned contradiction, but part of the truth is: we gamers don't know what the hell we want.

3. More epic RPGs. Preferabely with an interessting plot and setting.
2. More non-boring, non-retarded and preferabely non-serious adventure games. We hadn't one of those for many years.
1. MORE ELITE 4! Or at least something similar. Damn you, Freelancer (AKA Fable In Space)!

More games as good, unique and fantastic as the Metal Gear Solid 1.
And i want phisycs based sword battles. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif
Like when i fight with a big huge, heavy weight, blunt weapon, or axe, i want to see the enemy feel the weight of that weapon when he gets hit, and when he tries to block it with shield or his gayish little one-handed sword, i want see him fall on the floor.
That would kick the ass of many people.
It would be like : "FEEL TEH WRATH OF MY PWOER!!!11 "
And also i want to be able to charge an enemy. Like the charge add attack points to your attack, like charging in RTW add points to the attack.
