View Full Version : Board Games
All this nerdy talk about video games... Let's discuss old fashion gaming.
Monopoly is an awesome game, but after a while of playing, I seem to get really really bored with it.
Sorry! is pretty fun, as well as Operation.
The last one I played would have been Trivial Pursuit or Guess Who.
Fun times and a great way to spend time with friends or family.
Risk totally rules, so does Risk 2210.
Chess is also one of my favorites. Those are really my two favorite games, strategy all the way!

Imaginiff is a great game.
It's good with a lot of people who know each other well.

I try to avoid playing Monopoly, because for some reason people tend to become too involved and before you know it everyone becomes pissed and someone flips the board and walks aways swearing... or sobbing... or runs out franticly crying.
I still have life, but that game pisses everyone off, because the rules are too complicated and those ***** pieces don's stay in the god damn cars. Half the time when you spin the wheel it flys off the board or someone jerks the board knocking everything all over the place. Eventually someone's family falls out of the car one time too many and they just lose it.
"Mother... piece of shit car. God damn ho bag bastard child family! WHY... why can't you stay in the ***** CAR!! I bet if I didn't have the faggot pink car this shit would be happening."
Same player's turn comes up again. Spins the wheel, jerks the board, all of the pieces go everywhere and the wheel flys across the table and rolls under the couch. And that's it. Player loses it and exclaims
"SON OF A BITCH! ***** YOU MILTON BRADLY! I hate you and your god damn game with it's pink faggot car, stupid bitch wife and our tard monkey children that won's stay in the GOD DAMN CAR!! AND this ***** wheel that won't stay on the MOTHER ***** GOD DAMN BOARD!!!"
At this point the player picks up the board and whips it at the wall, picks it up again and slams it against the wall and furniture until he has released all of the aggervation and aggression that the game has manifested or instilled.
Usually that player is me, but I'm not the first to do it. LIFE I mean. I've also flipped the monopoly board a few times.
There's this game that my older sister has and I feel that it absolutely sux balls. It's some kids game and the goal is to get all of your pieces around the board first. It's a very aggervating frustrating game. FRUSTRATION!! That's the name of the game. I guess they want to teach the kids to play board games civilly through a very aggervating one. That way they won't grow to flip the monopoly board or manhadle the life board.

I just thought of another one I use to play long ago. Some cheap D&D knockoff called heros quest. It was so lame, because the board made it very linear compared to Dungeons & Dragons.
But I grew out of D&D anyways. Too much shit to buy, dice were/are expensive. The books and the setup is just too elaborate. Plus you have to find people with enough free time to persue an imaginary life.

I'm quite partial to a game of Cluedo myself.
I remember I used to play... er, I can't think of the name... something about Europe. You had a map of Europe and you went around doing things. Anyone know this game? They had one for Ireland too, so maybe they had one for your country. Damn, I wish I could remember that game.
I don't like Monpoly, for the reasons posted above.

Lately me and my step-brother have been playing a board game called Heroscape. It's a game where you have a bunch of interlocking tiles (with different colors grass, rock, water, sand, and lava) and you build your own battlefield (or use pre-built ones in the book) and then you have a bunch of different types of guys you can fight with ranging from knights to army men, werewolfs to dragons, and a bunch of other little guys each of them having their advantages and disadvantages and special skills. The games usually last several hours but it's a fun game and relys a little on tactics but a bit to much on luck (I am very unlucky playing it...i think my dice are broken http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Everything Catan. Settlers, Starfarers, Knights and Cities, Starship Catan.
And Warcraft the board game.
Also played a lot of MTG over the years, although that is not so much a board game.

I have this game at home: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3090
So it was made in 1980? That explains why Tom Baker's on the box (bearing in mind we got it in 1985, two Doctors later!). Recently I found out my mum had been teaching me to play it wrong -- out of moving (pieces that look like pawns), searching (turning counters over) and fighting (with a twelve-sided dice), you can only do two actions on each turn!
I used to love Ghost Castle as well -- but I remember one time I took it to school (last day of term \o/), and two boys stole the skull (you drop it down a chute and it knocks over player pieces) and started playing catch with it outside! Not because they enjoyed catch, but to spoil my and my friends' fun http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

BattleTech and Heavy Gear were awesome board games (that later became PC games)
Now, the total opposite, the Doom board game might be cool.

I used to play Risk almost every day during my second and third years in college. Way better than Calculus IV or Electromagnetism. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
haha! board games....they're so much fun until my sister decides to CHEAT!!! grrr i hate it when she does that...
i actally have a board game where you put a video in (yeah it's pretty old now http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) and then the gate keeper tells you what to do....it's cool when people follow the rules http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
even though i'll be opening up a 360 this christmas (yes i FINALLY got one yesterday http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) i think we'll all be getting more play time out of board games http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
