Hi i am a noob. I need help. Let me just stress that I am a VERY big newbie.
I am trying to do some mapping. I have ripped textures with that program thingo, built walls in Maxed 2, even spawned guns and emeny ai. But I need to place some objects in. Boxes tables bookcases. I heard something about 'trimeshes' but I have no idea what they are. Also something called a 'prefab' but all that's in the tutorial is about placing a prefab parent.
Sorry if this is answered in the tutorial somewhere, or if it takes ages too explain, or "Jeezus, I've helped at least fifty newbies out with this question!", But please, would someone help me out?

Well objects can be done in max ed 2 too
Did You downloaded any prefabs ?
if yes than in max ed 2 press the middle button of the mouse and select there "place prefab"
a menu shows up and there select "add" and select the prefab which You downloaded

Trimeshes are objects made in 3D Studio Max and imported in to MaxEd.
Prefabs aren't actually any kind of objects themselves. Here's an example of how prefabs work:
You make a table, then you group it with prefab parent and save. Now you just copy this as many times you need. If you later need to change something in that object you just need to open one of the prefabs and edit the object, then overwrite the previous one and all of the same prefabs will be updated with the new version. If you wouldn't use prefabs, you would have to edit each of the tables invidually.
Any of the objects can be grouped with prefab parent so it doesn't matter if it's made in MaxEd or if it's a trimesh. you can also group particles and projectiles with prefab parent.
Besides saving you a lot of time when you have to edit a object you can also use the same prefab in any of your levels because you save the prefab file to your hard drive. When you need to use it in other map of yours you can do like Wik told (mmb) or quicker way is to press 'P' when in "Build" mode (F3) and when a new window opens press 'Add' and locate your saved prefab.

Thank you guys that helps, expessially witikorous pro. I did that and it worked.
But Uisor what do you mean by 'make a table, then group'? do you mean make it out of the build mode? Or do you mean make it in 3ds 5, because I dont have 3ds.
Also thanks for the speedy response!
